Dead Time Capsule

Anyone else having problems with their Time Capsule dying? I've had mine for about 20 months and it just seems to have crapped out. I suspect it's the power supply, but I'm not sure. When I plug in the cord I see a little green light for a second and then nothing. Have tested out a new cord to no avail. I'm not under Apple Care anymore, so there's not much I can do. After a bit of searching, it seems like a lot of people have had theirs die around the 18 month point.

Mine died after 2 years of use. Took it to an Apple Service Centre here in Hong Kong but couldn't get a replacement since the AppleCare on my MacBook Pro is expired by one month. Ugh.

Like someone else said, Apple should issue a recall on these. Even when it was working, it got so hot it actually discolored the wood on my TV unit. Clearly, this unit has a thermal design flaw with no exterior openings for ventilation and a giant rubber foot that insulates the whole unit.

Mine died a few weeks ago after running for about two years. Most of the wireless routers I've had died within about that amount of time, but I was hoping for more from Apple.

Yep mine died just the other day. Powers up for a few seconds then dies again. I have yet to take it into a apple store.

Seems like this is a common problem, with many people reporting problems after about 18 months. As an owner of a Time Capsule, I'm worried about it. But I don't leave TimeMachine on all the time, so maybe it'll take longer for mine to fail. Did you keep TimeMachine running?

I had mine running all the time, controls my whole wireless network and my girlfriend and I are pretty heavy on streaming media around rooms in our flat. But still that's what they are designed for isn't it?

Yes, I think it shouldn't break just for using it as expected. Apple should issue a recall... So many reports about it. When you say you run it all the time, do you mean only the wireless or the disk as well?

I had the same problem, with my old one, and I hate to say it, but I had to trash it. I pulled the drive out of it since it is fully functional and all the data is safe, then In copied it over to a new drive. I think the design makes the power supply overheat. I decided to go with an Airport Extreme and a Drobo attached. Less heat and works great!
