D40 with 70-200 f2.8

Hey everyone,

I just rented this lens for the week to give it a test drive. I know its kinda overkill to put such a nice lens on a D40 but WOW is it amazing.

Pros:
- Constant max aperture of 2.8 throughout the focal length
- VR
- AF-S so it works great with D40 (auto-focusing)
- Sharpest pictures I've ever taken

Cons:
Really Really Heavy

I shot handheld and I did not last very long. I dont know exactly how many kg it was, but I would say in the 5-6 lbs range.

I am lusting after one of the 70-200/2.8s (either the Tamron or Siggy - the Nikkor is way our of my price range), but pictures from the Nikon 70-200/D40 are beautiful.

How is the balance? Did you shoot hand-held, or were you on a tri/monopod most of the time?

I'd love to see test shots, too!

That is pretty overkill! How heavy are we talking here? 1kg? More?

Do you have any links to any pictures you've taken?
