Crappy Build Quality

After only a few months, despite having amazing sound quality and noise isolating, the little rubber thing at the end of the cable of the headphones both came off as well as the jack cover becoming increasingly loose. Am i the only one to have these problems? Manufacturing fault?

Just duct tape the end/tip of the phones. I did this the day i bought them knowing that it was inevitable. The new earbuds that comes with the 3G S and the new shuffle has stronger tips. I wish that apple could've added the stronger tips to these headphones earlier. We have paid 'premium' price for these phones. hmmmmm

Same problem here. The rubber piece that cover the joint between the earpiece and the cable has unstuck itself on both sides, and the left piece actually tore off for me. Very frustrating, considering how much these headphones cost.

Apple has recently - and silently - replaced the rubber finish of the jack:

Took mine back the day after getting them as they were just awful. This had nothing to do with the broken left earpiece...they just didn't sound that great for the money. I usually spend that much (£50+) on Shure's or Sennheiser's, and figured to get recording capabilities on my Ipod Touch would be cool...but they were just dire. Would not recommend.

Interesting.. are you sure you're getting a good fit? With a nice seal, I find that the earphones sound very good compared to offerings like the Etymotic ER-6i.. I actually like it more compared to the latter. The Apples have similar detail and resolution but has superior separation and adds a bit of warmth and bass. I certainly find it much superior to any of the low-end offerings from Shure (I think you have to get to the SE310 or SCL4 to do better.. and even then it's not by far). I've heard many complaints that these sound "tinny" for example -- I usually associate that with a poor fit or seal. I find tinny to not be the case at all, but that's just me.

Yeah - they could be listening to media that's been poorly encoded as well.

I had the left earphone blow a driver causing some serious rattling. one call and 2 days later had replacements.

I'm more than impressed with Apples customer service with everything I've ever had a concern about.

I've been pretty impressed with these headphones, and they've held up a lot better than most previous offerings that I've purchased in this price range. Part of that might have to do with the fact that I actually take the time to wrap them up and put them in their case when I'm done with them.

I had a problem with mine and made a Genius Bar appointment about it. They ended up giving a new model.

These are by far the best Ear Phones i have ever used, however they are terrible build quality, Twice i have had one ear piece stop working and the rubber around the tip of each ear piece peel off after about 4-6 months daily use.

Also the rubber tips get very loose eventually and fall off in your ear, i have nearly lost them a few times inside the ear canal!!!

I've had mine for over a year now, and have just now started having trouble with them. The sound in the right ear piece stops working periodically (but will start back with sufficient wiggling of the wire), and the rubber seal on the left ear piece has come off completely.

I really like the fit of these, and the control of the mic/clicker, but I'd rather have something that's made a bit better and has better bass when I replace these.

My first pair did also loose the rubber after about 5 months. Then when they died after a year, I did get a replaisment pair (not from Apple but a reseller). Those did break in about the same time in the same way.
