Discussion about
Complete migration of Zune to another PC?
Now I've built my home PC I need to perform a complete transfer of the Zune install on my current workstation.
Anyone have good tips?

From what I've read, don't move anything until you migrate over the ZuneStore.sdf file if you want a complete mirror from your last state.
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Zune
I've had to redownload all my podcasts because I found this solution too late. If you move it in after you've made modifications to your library and move the sdf file in, Zune will repair your sdf file, which basically sets to back to the very beginning as if you were working off a fresh install (this happened to me.)

Yeah - after the grief I had with podcasts, your scenario is exactly what I want to avoid.
So I install Zune on the target PC and before I run anything, I move everything in the appdata zune folder from the previous PC?
Should I log in to the new install before I move?
Do I have to move anything from the programs folders?

I'm pretty sure that's all you'll need to move. I can't verify it would move everything 100% over, but I found this solution way too late.
One thing I did do was, made a copy of my current sdf file and moved the old one over, which was repaired because the current library changed. Realizing that did nothing except reset my library, I copied back over my current sdf file and everything came back. So I tested that, if you made no changes to your library and moved over a backup sdf file into a fresh install, then you should be fine and you won't have to redownload any podcasts. I'm hopinig that was clear enough to understand.

Thanks.
I haven't nuked the other machine yet so I'll test move before I do anything else.

So attempt 1 - Podcasts are fine, library is fine, but I can't play back any Zune Pass content due to 'invalid license' despite the PC appearing in Devices.
Uninstalling and trying again with just the .sdf file transfer.

No worky... sob
Still showing 'invalid license' in Collection files. I *could* redownload all my Pass stuff I guess, but it is a major hassle. Especially as I have some humongous Steam downloads lined up as well.

Decided to do it today. Will blow away my Pass content, redownload and hope that the other PC's in the authorised group pick up the new licenses. A pain in the arse - I fully appreciate you need DRM for something like this, but it would be nice if it (and moving a complete install) was better implemented and documented.
OK, this is a freakin' nightmare.
Now my Zunes on this account won't sync. The thing is, it doesn't *not* sync at all - it seemingly syncs only what it feels like. Checked license, they're all the same.
Why is it this difficult?

OK, blew away the Zunes' contents and erased all sync groups, tried again - appears to be working.
What a colossal hassle...

OK, problem finally fully solved. My main Zunes are back in sync with the account on the new PC as is my main handset. The final answer is, copy over that file, then nuke your Pass content on both your handsets and computer, then re-download.
Thanks to peterto for the invaluable tip - I'd have been raging over podcasts again had that info not been available.

Yeah thanks. I'm having a new issue with it, but hopefully I can get to the bottom of it - it still seems license related.
This worked for me:
1) I didn't put my music on my pc yet.
2) I downloaded zune software, installed and signed in
3) go to my Zune in the "devices" tab
4) changed settings to "sync all" for the new pc
5) select all music and right click. choose "copy all to pc"
6) all tracks copied to pc and appeared as though that was the computer it was originally synced with
