Yes the Drobo family is a lovely piece of kit but how can Drobo justify the difference in features between the Drobo 2nd-gen and Drobo S?
Currently the prices from the Drobo online store states that:
Drobo 2nd-Gen - £265.91
Drobo S - £484.26 (Promo Price)
The differences from what I have glanced at both spec sheets is the the Drobo S has an extra slot for another hard disk and eSATA connection.
Logically if you run both units with the Firewire 800 option you'll get the same transfer rate??
Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t the eSATA connection slower than Firewire 800?
If we are talking about capacity then inserting all the bays with 2TB drives you will get:
Drobo 2nd-Gen – 5.5GB
Drobo S – 7.5GB
Probably the main selling point of the Drobo S is the recovery plan if 2 drives fails, which isnt included in the Drobo 2nd-gen. You have to ask yourself, will two drives fail at the same time?
So a difference of 218.35 is it worth buying a Drobo S over a Drobo 2nd-gen?

Comparsion between the Drobo 2nd-gen and the Drobo S vs price
You wanted to know if you're wrong:

You claim only two differences... then claim another "selling point"? Doesn't seem like you're really thinking these differences through, not to mention the price of the higher models and the point of upselling.
