I have a pair of Panasonic RP-HTX7's. They're pretty cheap and sound okay but I'm looking to upgrade sometime in the nearish future (fall/winter). How comfortable are these headphones when used for hours (I'm talking 8 hours or more)?
They look great, and they look comfortable. One of my friends has them and he says they sound amazing but really need to run through a portable preamp or amp. What do you guys think? And which amp is best, and preferably portable.?
Discussion about
Comfortable? Which amplifier?
I am using the Darkvoice 336SE tube amp to drive these and I'm loving it. Also using a Headroom Total Bithead as my DAC out of my iMac. I am using them for jazz, soul, blues and the like so it's a natural fit from what I've been told and from my own experience.
I've also heard that the Heed Canamp pairs really well with these headphones. No personal experience though.
I believe I have an avg sized head and these are easily the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. Really soft earcups, the headband hasnt bothered me at all. After about 2 or 3 hours of listening I tend to forget they're on my head and I nearly kill myself tripping on the cord getting up to get a drink or something.

I have those and I really like them.
Sound is great and they are comfortable (like them more then the sennheiser HD650) - I use them with a tube amp as the connected to my computer.
If you wanna use them as portable you must have an amp since no regular music player will B able to push those for you to get the sound they can supply.
When I'm portable I use a pair of Grado SR80 - which I think are one of the best for portable device.

I have a really large head, and I can't use them continuously for more than a couple of hours. The headband is not very soft, so it has a tendency to press down on the top of my head. As far as the sound quality goes, they can't be beat for acoustic music like classical or jazz. I prefer the Beyerdynamic line for anything with a heavy beat, though.
For amplification, I use the Music Hall OBH-11 (available on Amazon). It's not portable, but it makes everything sound great. If you're going to get a high-end set of cans, you HAVE to have an amp. They'll sound terrible without one. I tried a portable headphone amp (I think it was called Cat Eye or something like that), but it wouldn't ever hold a charge more than a couple of days (without even being used at all), so I switched to the plug-in kind.
