I am looking at alternative uses for my touch other than just ebaying it. I was thinking about mounting my iPod touch in a room with dedicated speakers. I don't want to have to deal with syncing it though.

Well, you could stream play your iTunes library from your computer (using whatever speakers, maybe an Airport Express if needed), and use the iPod Touch as the remote for streaming it.
