Can anyone here tell me what they think of this product?

I've been looking to build some kind of home nas with raid ability but if I can get one of these for sub 300 and have it be affective that would be awesome. My only concern with any pre-built NAS is the firmware/software on the box. I know they typically tend to be pretty bad but the new Network Space Max is a pretty solid deal at $280 for 2 1TB raid 1 config.

I find the speed of the drive horribly slow. I bought it to store media on it for playback on my ASUS OPLAY and it can't do it, plus putting large files on takes forever. My PS3 sees it but disconnects from it about every 30 seconds so there is always a message in on the screen saying that "the media device has been disconnected" .I use it purely for back up now and have considered numerous times cracking it open so I can put the drive in my HTPC and actually use it. That has been my experience with the 1tb model.

Thanks Manitou. Drive speed is something that keeps me from investing in one of the pre-built models. I often read the firmware/software causes big issues with a good I/O even when going over a wired connection or via USB.
