Cable failure

My right channel has started cutting in and out a lot- I narrowed it down to the cable. If I jiggle the red loop it will cut in and out. The cabling seems to be the weakness in the headphones.

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to be pretty common.

I wish Sennheiser made a coiled cable terminated with a right-angle plug. I could re-terminate it, but it would be much bulkier than the stock molded one.

Yes, the cable mine shipped with had a manufacturing defect but I got it swapped for free. The replacement has had a good three years of daily punishment and is starting to occasionally drop out in the right channel. Lucky they're so easy to replace. I personally think the plug that terminates in the ear cup could be better designed.

I have the 1.5m (approx) figure 8 cable terminating in a 90° 3.5mm jack.

My left channel is cutting in and out. Or, it's not gone completely, just softer until I jiggle the connector a bit.
Does anyone have good replacement cable-tips?

I tried adding a thin solder layer to the plugs in mine. This worked for a little bit, but I think my problem was the cable itself and not the prongs. Be careful when soldering, the molded plastic isn't that heat resistive and may melt.

I ended up ordering a coiled cable (hard to find in the US, had to get it shipped from the UK) for a replacement. The straight steel cable were by far more common in the US. I just ordered online; maybe you'll have better luck through an authorized dealer.
