Discussion about
Buy Now or wait For Snow Leopard
My wife and I are thinking about buying our first Mac computer. We are L/T PC people. First question. Does anyone expect Snow Leopard to be major upgrade to current operating system? Should we buy now or wait? Also, I've heard that Apple is going to be upgrading their desktop line in the Fall reducing prices and improving features (like they dd on MacBook Pro line). Does anyone know details?
I think it has been a while since they revised their desktop offerings. I'd definitely wait until that happens. Also, Snow Leopard is only a $29 upgrade, but I bet those updated desktops will be coming out around then.
Personally, I'd never buy an Apple product more than 3 or 4 months away from its last update. In my eyes, that's just buying outdated hardware.

Snow Leopard isn't a major upgrade but it does introduce some nice and enhanced features. Its only 30 dollars also so I say Buy Now. The thing with Macs is that the hardware doesn't affect performance for the average user. You could get the base specs on a mac and be able to do video editing, song editing etc with ease. The Specs really don't affect a whole lot when it comes to Macs especially if your not doing professional level processing and video editing.
Because you can get Snow Leopard for only $29, aligning your purchase with Apple's product update cycle is more important. If you're patient, you can wait till the next rev comes out and purchase the old rev at a slight discount. Or if you decide the new rev is a better buy, get the new rev. It depends on how eager you are to get your new gdgt. :-)
MacRumors has a history of when each Apple product was updated. You can guess when a new version of a product would released based on its average update cycle. No guarantees, but probably better than reading tea leaves.
