I had a Rev A00 one of these, and it developed (or maybe always had?) an issue with certain colors, only when these colors appeared on the left half of the screen, causing horizontal static lines, and if the problem colors covered enough of the screen, the entire screen losing sync and going black.
It was definitely the monitor as I tried different DVI cables, different computers, different video cards, different inputs on the monitor and different operating systems. It could be temporarily fixed by power cycling it or unplugging it and plugging it back in. I had seen some reports on-line that seemed to be similar issues, but nothing conclusive, and most related to the 27" version of this monitor. I didn't find anyone that had tried to reproduce it as much as I had. I collected 65+ different RGB colors that caused the problems (which was actually pretty easy with a shell script and xmag -- yeah Linux!).
Dell replaced it with a Rev A02 which does not appear to have the problem.
If you think you're having a similar problem and your monitor is still under warranty, have Dell ship you a replacement.
It seems that Rev A02 also fixed a problem with the "Custom Color" mode always showing an almost solid magenta or blue screen.
DM me for a link to a video I took of this problem.

Be sure you get at least the Rev A02 of this monitor.
Interesting feedback. Despite my aversion to Dell as of late I was tossing up either getting more HP's or the U3011 - which would cost me less. I was veering towards the latter. Good to know.
I'm a semi-regular Dell customer, and I've never had a problem with a product that they didn't solve for me (especially because their warranty is actually pretty generous, and the extended warranty is pretty damn cheap). There are a lot of horror stories out there about Dell service, but I think you'd find them about anyone's service, and my experience with Dell has been positive.
Go with what you know. I'd be somewhat leery of going with a vendor I had absolutely no experience/history with.

Er... well, I'm in a slightly different situation to your average consumer, or certainly used to be until later in 2008 until my ICT spending fell off a cliff - although I think it's probably fair to say that despite my hugely reduced state I still spend more on it in a year than most individuals will spend in a lifetime.
So I've ample experience (and experience of evaluating) support. That wasn't the issue really - it was more customer service issues.

Yeah. I know in most minor technical respects they're fine. I still rate Prosupport very highly for example. It's just when you have a more involved issue which is less a purely tech support issue, things go in the crapper.
In situations like this for example, HP has come through like a champ. And even Apple, whose hardware I'm not the worlds greatest fan of, do actually have the right attitude in this area.
I just had a few too many of those problems and resolved not to darken Dell's doors again for a while. I think I'll probably stick with HP for the 30-inchers, but will get another set of competitive quotes.
