The one thing I noticed was they all used the Kinect for visual input. It was kind of weird to see a MS product used in such a DIY way and wonder if they even thought of the things possible for it. With the SDK coming out soon, I am really tempted on tinkering with one.
One idea I had was facial recognition door or garage door.
