Are you going to pre-order the Zune HD?
Looks like the Zune HD comes out mid-September. If the pricing we've seen is accurate (16GB version for $220, 32GB version for $290), will you pre-order one? I'm guessing that given the level of interest they may be in relatively short supply, at least initially. I'm sorely tempted, I was able to play with one for a few minutes at last week's gdgt launch party and was very impressed.
Very simple. I would *love* one, but I'm on a mac, and though it's gorgeous and I really think they are great players, I don't love them enough to dual boot or VM just for music.
The Zune HD has me interested and I'll probably buy one on launch (not that I "need" it), but the lack of Mac support kills me. Although I have Windows 7 on my Macs, I would hate to boot the VM just for the Zune HD.
No Mac support means no good for me. Looks interesting though.
Could be something my wife would be interested in using, but would need to be pretty impressive to get her to leave her iPod Touch, and she would never buy anything without getting her hands on it first. Definitely a "wait and see" device.

I'll be pre-ordering for sure. I've waited for this since April, and I would be mightily disappointed if it sold out before I could get one at the store.
I've got to say no. I mean, I have a smartphone, I have a iPod. Why do I need this device? Media players have been 'good enough' to play all my media (or I've gotten used to putting stuff in the correct format for my devices) for a long time now. The compelling thing that drives these multimedia devices is now the applications. I'll wait to see what sot of real world compelling features the device has. No pre-order for me.

If I needed it, I would snap it up in a second. Truly I would because it looks good and personally I'd like to try something new.. But I don't need any more music players; Shuffle, iPhone 3GS, and a 2nd gen Nano (RED) with tons of music on firefly Lexar USB drives for my Mini Cooper, not to mention music on computers, Pandora subscription... music is everywhere.
to address some of the other issues here, I think positively about this and look at it as exciting to try something new. Re: the mac thing.. yeah I wish MS would create a mac patch or app or something to make it available on OSX, but there is always using iTunes via parallels. I wouldn't be so anti Microsoft and say "Never".. I'm sure they've done what they can to create a stellar competitive product to the iPod Touch.. anyways, that's it for now. Apple has been on my not so good list ever since I woke up after reading this article: bit.ly/xXCD8
do you think they made us think differently just to recreate the same scenario they were painting in the 1984 Ad, but they are both the Evil and good side? sorry I got off the Zune HD thing. Microsoft is not the new Apple, and I don't think Google is the new Apple either. There is no new Apple because big is just big and I think we are in for a new paradigm shift.. something else will be new.

It looks and sounds like a pretty nice device, but I have a 32GB iPhone 3GS, and that does everything I need.
I'm using Mac as well but I installed Windows 7 on it so no worries for me. I'd pre-order one ones they offer it at Best Buy. $299 is a good deal compared to iPod Touch coz I already own an iPhone 3G. I dont play my media on the phone because of the battery. Zune HD is gonna be awesome.
If I can scrape up the money, I might get one. My only concern is the storage space. I have 30 gigs of music on my Zune 80 right now. That doesn't include videos, pictures, and podcasts. I would max it out before I could get everything on there. I'll probably wait for a 64 gig model. If it came out at 64 gigs, I would definitely get one.
I'll pre-order the 16gb. I like the black version better, and I make do with a measly 4gb right now. Not planning on loading it up with movies, so 16gb should be okay.
and while I was waiting for the next gen of smartphones, I think I'll just keep a dumbphone and get the ZuneHD, since I'm pretty much always in wifi range.

I won't preorder just because I'm waititng to see the refresh of the iPod touch( already have the second gen, would love a camera). I've bought apps so I'm already invested in the app ecosystem apple has, I'll have to wait and see if there is enough of a reason to switch
I think I'm sticking with my ipod touch for now. I'm only staying because of the big jailbreak community and fully supported app store. Other than that, the price is great for what is offered. The OLED screen just worries me in sunlight... ONce this has a big community behind it (such as the jailbreak community) and has a robust app store that's competable I might get it. Throw in mac support and I'll really get it. Otherwise, it's bootcamp for me.
The Zun HD Looks great with a UI that is way better then the iPhone iPod UI but there is a few issues with the device preventing me from buying one for myself. Number one no mac software, number two have not seen any great applications, and number three No Phone. I need a device that does media way better then my phone to get me to carry around more than one device again. I have lived the Dell Axim, Razr, and Toshiba Gigabeat utility belt life and I love having one device to replace all three. Hell I don't even carry a point and shoot camera much anymore just a full body or DSLR for big events as the iPhone is good enough for just fun little trips or everyday use. That being said my step mom is getting the BlackBerry 9630 and she will not use any Apple products(no idea why she won't as she is the target market for mac and when asked she has no reason unlike my hatred for HP) so I think she might like the Zune HD along with her BlackBerry as she will be traveling a lot for work. So maybe will will buy one and thus I will have to set it up. (play with it) Looks great but not for me. A phone with that great of a UI and Mac integration as well as something to replace mobile me and I would consider leaving the 3Gs.
Wrote on iPhone so sorry for any mistakes.

Ever since the Google Voice App fiasco I have been wanting to dump the iPhone. to make a small personal statement about my displeasure with Apple's Actions. The Zune HD comes along at exactly the right time. I will be pre-ordering one.
I still have tons of questions:
Any integration with my Media Center PC to watch my Recorded TV and Videos?
Is there a .NET SDK so that I and the rest of the world can easily write apps?
What is the battery life? If I am going to surf and listen, I will need lots of battery life
How hard is to expand? I have a handful of MicroSD cards with different types of music that I just pop into my Sansa when I'm in the mood.
Will there be a Skype app so I can pretend it's a phone when at home, work, or Barnes and Noble?
If the answer is positive on 3 or 4 of these, sign me up.

The Zune already supports shows recorded in Windows Media Center. There's not chance of expansion. The storage you buy it with, will be the storage it has forever. There are not card slots.
No - this will be an expensive toy and one I don't currently need anyway. An upgraded iPod Touch would probably serve me better anyway.. I have 4 iPods and counting..
The ZuneHD is a tough decision for me: I already have an iPod Touch 2G and an iRiver Clix2... and with the upcoming iPod Touch (3G? 2.5G?) I've become so used to using both. Don't get me wrong though, the 32GB looks gorgeous though... however I don't see myself watching video on it, as I'm in front of a computer pretty much all day long anyway haha.
(Disclaimer: I work for Microsoft but not on Zune)
I haven't seen a Zune HD in person, but I'm starting to think this (along with a Zune Pass subscription) is going to be the ideal standalone music player. I have an iPhone but still use a 16GB Zune for the gym/travel because of subscription music, channels, radio, and even some of the social stuff from time to time.
All you can eat is a fantastic bargain, especially on such an awesome device. When compared to the iPod Touch as a PDA it may not be all that appealing, but as a pure music device I think it may be tops.

I'm with you guys - 32GB is nothing. I want more solid state storage and I want it now. I paid $400 for my 60GB iPod 5th gen and I won't pay the same for 30GB's less with an iPod Touch 2G. The Zune's a better value for the storage, but I have a ton of digital data and I want to take it with me. You throw in 720p HD material, and you need some serious storage!
My only comment about this is I think people are moving towards quality over quantity.
You could own the 160GB ipod, and have a ton of music in low rotation and a bunch of movies including a bunch of crap you keep on there.. contrary to that thought is the minimalist approach: less is more.. taken to extremes it's a bit dull, but a happy medium of having what you actually enjoy instead of owning a "SUV" of all ipods, you can probably fit this on most smaller devices. The trick is realizing what you "love" instead having it all. After all, all we really own are the moments in life and when we die we let all go; point being, fill your life with "good" things in life and don't waste your time sifting through a bunch of stuff. .............NEXT>>....NEXT>>....NEXT>>...

Yes - I was on the fence about picking one up right away, although I had pretty much talked myself into it. but as the screen on my 30Gb brown just cracked, it seems almost too perfect....
I'm not so sure about preordering it. I kind of would like to give it a week or two to see the general reaction from people towards the product. However, a one to two week window might mean it will be sold out. If so, how long do you think a company like MS would take to release its next batch?
