- Developers can make more money on iOS
- It takes more time to develop an application for Android as opposed to iOS
- Developers may have to account for variations in more than 550 different Android gadgets. Apple, by contrast, has just a few models.
- Distributing Android software to multiple application stores takes more work. For Android, there are 90 app stores.
- It's also not as easy to charge Android users for apps as it is on Apple devices.
Discussion about
Are Developers Losing Interest in Android?
I have read that:
Probably. I use both android and ios. At times, the same application has a better interface on the ios but a really bad interface on the android. Lesser people buy android apps because installing apps without paying is easier on android compared to ios where you have to jailbreak and not everyone does that.
I have felt this drain in Android, it fells like all the cool apps have been added and there is no innovation. Honeycomb was a failure and ICS looks like it is not getting traction.
I dont agree with all of this, with the realise of ICS I believe that for developers it is now easier. Look towards the future please.
1. A lot of app developers are making less money from Android than they are from iOS, although often the reason is that they're not releasing their apps for Google's OS in the first place. So customers loose interest. theirs also another point to this it is proven that IOS users click on ads about 30% more than Android users this could be because Android users are more "Tech savoy". Android paid apps revenues may lag behind iOS, but developers should be more concerned with its potential
2. Again don't agree, IOS apps are written in objective C which I agree a lot of people know. But in my opinion more people know how to create an Android app without knowing it. Android apps are created using Java the widest coding langue used. I would say they probably take the same time.
3.Mmm interesting one, ONE important point here is that software wise variation doesn't really exist. Android has about 10 major versions, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and 4.0. IOS on the other hand has half IOS, 1,2,3,4,5, their is a difference but not a huge difference here. But again were you said its the manufactures e.g HTC, Samsung that are causing problems, IOS only has 1 Apple meaning only 2 new devices each year, but Android has over 50 manufactures and over 50 phones realsed last year alone, samung im looking at you 5 versions of the GS2 come on! You have to remember that many would argue that Android phones are more advanced than iphones and ipads. Better cpu, battery and screen technology. Their deff is an issue though with this an its needs to be sorted but i don't see how Google can do anything to sort this.
3. Cant really comment on this as i have not uploaded an app to multiple counties, but as far as i know Android 4.0 release has meant that Google have changed their uploading service to be more simple. At the end of the day if you want to upload t worldwide store it surly will only take you like 1 hour more to do so. There's also another point that their is only one place to buy apps on IOS the Apple store whereas on Android there are several , Android Market, Amazon Market, Getjar to name a few. Fragmentation is an issue.
4. Disagree devs can use in app purchases like ios but maybe not as simple again. User can purchase a wide range of content, including downloadable content such as media files or photos, and virtual content such as game levels or potions. The transaction is process through the Android store so the money will go directly into the devs Google account, so to speak.
As is always the case IOS app development and the whole process sin general is "SIMPLER" which is always the case with IOS. Google is learn, but it is important to look to the future as well. With over 600,000 activations daily Android clearly has the lead over IOS at the moment and probably in the future as well. In terms of money IOS clearly has the lead at the minute. Just my opinion. :)
