Apple is bringing rotation lock (back) to the side / mute switch, it's looking official! The brand new iOS 4.

3 beta build includes the option (which as you might recall was the default functionality for that switch when the iPad launched).

Best news I've heard since, um, Apple announced the CDMA iPhone for Verizon.

Glad to hear they're bringing it back as an option. I'm still not used to it being a mute switch on my iPad.

This is so exciting. I’m glad they were willing to admit that it didn't make any sense to takt it away.

I'm definitely changed it back to orientation lock. I didn't understand why Apple made that change, especially since holding down the volume down button for a second mutes it anyway.

I'm glad to hear this. Mute was basically worthless on iPad (most apps seem to just ignore it). It wasn't the end of the world to activate orientation lock on 4.2, but having a dedicated button and then losing it to something worthless was annoying as hell.
