Apparently there's a beats edition of the envy 14 that starts at $1249.99 now. BTW, anyone know if the black of the beats edition are just black plastic?

I would assume they just painted the metal case black. It would be a pain for the manufacturer to switch all of its major materials for a special edition. Who knows though, maybe HP is just weird and switched to plastic.

Same materials, black colour. You also get a pair of Beats Solo's (headphones). Possibly better than a kick in the teeth / straightforward ripoff, like Apple used to with their Blackbooks.

The Envy 15 Beats had a black glossy plastic finish. The Envy 14 Beats is all matte black most likely metal. Most likely because the Beats Studios were glossy and the Beats Solo's are matte.
