I didn't feel that my Droid was terribly sluggish with 2.0 or 2.1, but I did notice some improvement in 2.2. I did notice that when I installed it, the booting took quite long. Since then, my boot times feel faster than they did with 2.1. Anything I'm saying is purely anecdotal and unscientific; I didn't use a stopwatch to compare actual times.

Generally the first boot after an update on android takes longer. (sometimes significantly)

I don't think you will see a whole lot of difference on phones such as the Droid or higher. I installed a Froyo based ROM on my Eris and noticed considerable difference but that phone is half the specs of the Droid.

Installed it manually last week, and yes it's significantly faster than 2.1. Feels like a brand new phone.

Yeah, it's way faster! I ran a benchmark test and it more than tripled the 2.1 score.
