Any Windows XP users left in the world?
I find it comical that it shows 600 people owning Windows XP on here... It is still by far the most installed version of Windows... Meanwhile, we show 500 people owning Vista... All the older versions of OS X show small numbers, but the most recent version, Snow Leopard, shows double the installs of either of these - 1200....
Its interesting nonetheless to see the OS make up around here...

I will be my vista netbook fell through so now i have an Xp netbook, don't know how long i will keep it though.
Even Windows 7 shows more owners than XP and Vista (700) and its not even been released yet!! (official launch Oct. 22, although I realize lots of "owners" on here are beta/RC-users, pre-orders, and people who have a free upgrade from a recent pc/laptop purchase....)
its very clear its a "newer is better" demographic... I guess it matters too that I'm more of a collector than a first adopter... I'd need a few raises before that could happen....
Plus i would imagine, up until today, all of my xp machines are gone for vista flavor, so that could factor into it. My XP was in my had now in my have, and to be honest i am slightly pissed my netbook came with vista and now i have to buy 7 but i doubt anything microsoft will stay on there.
Thank you, a little earlier but all the same its hopefully going to keep me up during my 36 hours straight of work and training this weekend, well that and a mass amount of caffeine.
FWI i hate XP with a passion, maybe i am spoiled and this is a netbook but none the less it is annoying downgrading.
XP has always been good to me and I haven't gotten a new computer with Vista yet. At this point, I probably never will. Next one will be win7 and I want to use the student offer to get it for my girlfriends laptop too... How many different computers can you install Vista/Win7 on using one copy?
I am not sure on that but would like to find out as well, i have 3 computers now i would like to install it on, mainly so i could be rid of xp, lol, i really don't hate it but there are so many notifications and annoying things i have to deal with. Needless to say its already running Ubuntu netbook remix and i am quite happy with that.
I have a couple of machines that run great under XP.
I simply can't afford to upgrade ALL of my computers to Windows 7, which I'd honestly consider if I could, as they all briefly ran the Win 7 beta with few real problems.

Did your Win7 computers have a hard time seeing the XP machines? My win7 box is being a pain on the network even though I opened it wide open to share and put it on the correct domain. I don't know what the problem is......
I still have Windows XP Professional running on my Desktop machine, which is a 6 year old Dell Dimension 8200, with 1.5 GB of RAM and a Pentium 4 processor. I could probably upgrade to Windows 7 and the thing would still run, but I really have no reason to do so at the moment. XP suits it well, and I really only use it to run Skype, and occasionally edit a podcast or two in Adobe Audition.
I still run XP Pro on my 5+ year old, home-built desktop PC and have no interest in updating to either Vista or 7. However, I also run a laptop with Vista and I will likely update it to some version of 7.
And for the record, I also run Snow Leopard on my iMac.
I've tried Linux on a number of occasions (on an old laptop), but continue to find it more work than it's worth. Sure, I've been sucked into the world of proprietary this and proprietary that, but I really prefer to think of my computer as a tool and not a way of life, which is how Linux always leaves me feeling.

Windows XP is the dominant OS in the world and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon. It has an absolutely massive install base and many of its users would sooner buy a new computer than consider upgrading to a new OS.
I personally love 7 and run it on all my machines. Aero snap seriously increase my productivity and saves a ton of time.

We still use Windows 2000 at my work, though some lucky users have XP. I personally love XP and have it on all my home machines. I will probably get Windows 7 when I buy a new machine, but I'm pretty happy with my equipment right now...
Practically all my Mac VM's run XP. And of course, all my Windows 7 machines have XP Mode - and a number of Vista machines at the office also have XP in VM.
And I have a number of XP utility machines floating around the place in the office, although everything I actually use on a daily basis is Vista or 7.
I'm also re-piloting some Mac Pros with XP in Boot Camp. I really would like more use out of these since when not running OS X based programs they're idle, but if they run badly it's not an option. Vista and 7 aren't stable on Macs - practically 100% of the BSOD's, freezes and crashes on Vista post-'08 and W7 I've had are on Mac/Book Pros - so it's out of the window (aha) for now. Maybe XP will fare better.

Ya I use Windows 7 Professional with free download of XP professional on my VMware Player . and then other backup computer is XP Home ..I still use XP in alot of things.. I see alot of customers with XP still that I help Fix and Tune up , other stuff. I am Technical support ..
If you are using Win7 Pro you can get XP mode which is a very tight intergration of the virtualisation. It also means you don't need a seperate XP license (that technically you do for VMware) www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
XP Black Edition on my netbook (it came with Home pre-installed). 7 on my other laptop and older desktop. Vista on my gaming rig (haven't gotten around to upgrading, when I do I'll be doing a clean install - I've never liked doing upgrade installs when it comes to Windows). I've gone through phases of using 7, Ubuntu, Jollicloud, Mint, and Chrome OS on my netbook, but I went back to XP a few months ago.
