Any questions about the Xyboard 8.2 (aka the Xoom 2 Media Edition)?

Motorola just sent me one to check out, hit me up with any questions you might have!

One question I can't answer: how to pronounce "Xyboard".

Why would anyone buy this over an Asus Transformer Prime, iPad 2 or Samsung? It's not bad I guess...I'm just searching for the compelling reason that someone would select it.

I think the 8.2-inch screen size is nice, the pixel density is good.

Definitely. I have tried the normal 10.1" tablets and they are great for media but no so good for typing, regardless of portrait/landscape. The 7" Flyer I tried was good, and the 8.2 Xyboard is definitely nicer. I haven't tried the Tab 8.9 though.

Personally I bought mine because I wanted something smaller than the current iPads, and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is close but has the TouchWiz UI.

Fair enough. I hope no one took my question as a challenge or downgrade on this tablet. I'm just looking for the differentiators that tablet makers, especially those using Android, are going to have to come up with in order to survive against the iPad on the high end, the Transformer Prime on the productivity/techy side and the Kindle Fire as the price leader.

I've mostly heard it as the Zi-Board, although that's not really a great answer since it seems to be called what people want it to be called. Maybe Moto will come out and tell us how to say Xyboard like Toyota did with the plural for Prius a year or two ago...

Personally I think it sounds too close to Cyborg.....

I think they were maybe deliberately trying to have something that sounded like "cyborg".

Well, you've also got the Asus Transformer Prime

so, maybe there's a somewhat robotic theme going on to beat Apple?

Well, you said Xoom as "zoom", so I suspect you do the same with this and call it Zyboard. (And the y is said as a long "i" sound.)

How is it performing?

How easy is it to carry with you? Does size matter?! :) Seriously, I find that a smaller form factor on some 7" tablets are ideal to carry about all day. The Kindle Fire fits in every pair of pants I own (save those disgusting skinny jeans we won't talk about), right in the front pocket. That is huge benefit for having it with me as I move about. When I had a dual booting Nook Color, it was just a tad bigger and ONLY fit in a oversized coat pocket... not very handy. So, back to my question, how do you find the portability of the 8.2? I would think.... just speculating... that I might want to have a 9.7 or 10.1, if I had anything bigger than a 7" Fire. Your thoughts?

It's pretty thin, and while it's definitely too big to fit into a coat pocket (unlike a 7-inch tablet), it is definitely way more portable than an iPad.

When I got mine at the VZW store, they called it the x-y board, :) I always thought of calling it the xy-board.

Have you noticed that on the bottom center of the screen (holding it in portrait mode) if you are on a dark/blank screen there is a little backlight bleed ? No matter how much I try to adjust the screen brightness it's still there.

I would guess it should be pronounced "Zy" board...as in xylophone?

I haven't noticed that backlight bleeding, but I'll look at it more closely over the next few days.
