Any questions?
Hi - your friendly local Squeezebox expert here. Any questions about the Touch, Radio or indeed any of the SB range? Happy to help.
Hi, I have had a Squeezebox boom for a little over a year now and i simply live and die by it. I was kind disappointed when the AOL radio stations were taken off of it for the Yahoo radio stations, and i was also kinda confused since both sets of those radio stations are powered by CBS. Anyway, a few things for the folks wanting to play their own music. I tried the logitech server from my computer and just hated it. It didnt recognize my mp3 tags properly no matter how hard I tried. There are other solutions though. First off there is a service called MP3Tunes Music Locker that has free and pay-for services. Anyway you can upload your own music to their site and access it on your Squeezebox. Also, with a small amount of know-how, you can easily set up a radio stream from your computer's music and listen to it on your Squeezebox that way. There is no way to control the music through your squeeze box but hey it is your music you should like all of it on shuffle. I use a free windows provided program called Windows Media Encoder to stream the music.
On a side note I wish Logitech provided their software on more than just the Squeezebox platform. It is the best software I have seen or used to organize and play internet radio and internet music applications. I personally have a Windows mobile phone and would buy it if they provided it, but it is just shocking that they don't have an app in the app store. Maybe apple thew up a stop sign for them.

Hey its me again from the SB Touch thread! I was thinking of recommending this for my dad. I'm already familiar with the Squeezebox 3 and the Boom as far as functionality goes and I guess this would be more or less the same.
But I'm wondering about the sound quality. This thing looks like an old radio, which has me worried the sound quality. It does have 2 speakers and not just 1 right? What does it sound like compared to the Boom?

The Squeezebox Radio has one speaker, but it sounds pretty good to my ears. It's not going to satisfy an audiophile, but for a clock radio it is great.
It has the exact same speakers as the Boom, just half as many - so 1 mid/bass and 1 tweeter in a mono configuration. The cabinet design is actually a little better acoustically than the Boom, so there's a little more bass "fullness". The sound is really quite good, I wouldn't be at all worried about recommending it for casual listening in a bedroom/kitchen/study etc. It's particularly suited for outside/portable use, given that the optional battery allows it to be totally wireless and it has a nice carry handle. Do be aware that the battery and remote are not included, they're in an expansion pack.
If you're on facebook, the Squeezebox group has some side-by-side photos of Radio and Boom I posted so you can see the size difference.

Yes it is. There's a stereo line/headphone out but the speaker is mono (just like the Tivoli radios, for example). You'd be surprised how much difference it doesn't make, most small boxes like that don't have enough distance between the speakers to get any decent separation anyway - good mono can often sound better than so-so stereo.
Hi,
I have a Roku Soundbridge Radio that has developed a speaker problem and I'm looking at the Squeezebox Radio.
A critical feature for me is the ability for the "wake to" stream to be able to be a different stream than the most recent stream. Also, that the wake-up sound gradually ramps up. Does the SB Radio do this? Does it have a sleep timer? Does it have the ability to show the clock full screen, so that it can be viewed across the room?
BTW - do you work for Logitech?
Thanks,
Larry

OK, let's see...
You can set multiple alarms, each can have their own repeat settings (i.e. sound once, every day, etc) and each has it's own playlist. You can wake up to any local track, playlist, radio stream, etc. There are also settings for things like natural sound effects (wake up to a cockrel?) or random mixes.
I'm 99% sure the alarm sound fades in, but I should test that tonight before swearing to it :)
Sleep timer = yes.
Full screen clock = yes (various designs, digital or analog). Whether you can read it across the room depends on the room and your eyes!
And no I don't work for Logitech, I'm a long-time community member and beta tester.
Hope that helps!

Alarm does fade in. It also plays a backup beep if for some reason it can't play what you had set (e.g. if the network connection is down).
It started shipping a couple of days ago but supplies seem to be very limited initially. I heard Best Buy should have it in a couple of weeks, ordering directly from www.logitechsqueezebox.com/products/squeezebox-rad... might be the best bet, it still says "preorder" but they've said they're shipping them out as soon as they get them. I imagine Amazon will get stock soon too.

I should probably state this for the record: I'm not a Logitech employee and don't speak for them. I am a beta tester and receive pre-release SB products (including Radio) for evaluation & testing from time to time. I also have other SB products I paid for with cold hard cash :)
Hi,
After reading some initial reviews of the squeezebox radio I'm a little worried about the support for streaming audio from your LAN. Apparently, this requires that you install server software, i.e. you always need to have a PC running. Of course, this isn't always ideal.
My setup consists of a NAS and also a router with USB HDD attached. So, my music collection is accessible either via regular network shares (samba) or via a DLNA server. I simply don't have the option of running the logitech server software on these devices.
So, I was wondering if the radio does support a regular network share or a DLNA server? Or do I have to look somewhere for a different radio solution (which would be a shame, since I really do like this logitech radio).
Thanks,

For various reasons I won't go into, the Squeezebox players all need a server to connect to. For internet radio etc you can connect to SqueezeNetwork (now called MySqueezebox.com) so you don't need to run the server locally. However, to play local files you do need to run the server. The good news is you can run it on many different machines - PC/Linux/Mac and even some NAS units. Around the end of the year the Squeezebox Touch will be coming out which is a desktop player which has a built in server, so it can manage music for all the other Squeezeboxes on your network (some of us have a lot!). Until then, I suggest you give it a try - the features offered by having a real server app rather than something basic like Twonky are great, and you can always use things like WOL to send the machine to sleep when you're not using it.
No idea - sorry! Your best bet is to hop over to forums.slimdevices.com and take a look in the Radio forum there.

You need to connect it to mysqueezebox.com, that will let you play streaming radio without a local server.
Is there in the setup for squeezebox radio for it to auto reconnect when an internet radio station has a "blimp" and goes off air. Playing the station on my desktop it will auto try but I must go to the squeezebox radio and push play to get it restarted - would be helpful as use it to soothe the dog while I'm away
Hope this thread isn't completely dead!
Is it possible to cold boot the Squeezebox Radio and play music from a line-in device (iPod, Nexus One, etc) when there is no wi-fi or ethernet present to connect to the internet/squeezebox service with? For example, if I were to take it to the beach or my home wifi was disabled.
I know the Squeezebox Boom can do this, but I am not sure if the Radio does. I tried at Frys today on a display model, but could not get it to. It just said "no network found" and only gave troubleshooting options.
Thanks! (from a potential owner)

The line-in functionality shouldn't be affected by whether a server connection is available or not, but I haven't tested it myself. If it's important to you I recommend you head over to the squeezebox forums and ask there (logitechsqueezebox.com).
Adam, Hope you are still out there. Are you aware of any plans for Logitech to fix the alarm snooze glitch on the Boom? When connected to mysqueezebox.com, the alarm plays correctly on schedule, but when you hit snooze it goes off a minute later. Hit snooze again, and it usually give you the programmed snooze time of 10 minutes or whatever. Frustrating glitch in a fantastic machine.
Hi. I have just installed a Peachtree Nova digital amp/preamp/DAC, and connected it to my PC (Windows 7) via USB. The PC recognises the Nova as a DAC, and I then used Foobar to play the digital files on my PC through the Nova. So far, so good. But I don't want to sit at the PC to choose the music. Can I confiigure the SBT to control/play the PC's music files through the DAC on the PC - without connecting the SBT directly to the Nova? Or is there a more elegant solution (like a wireless notebook or something?) ...Thanks.
