Another World

I knew this was a great gaming machine but my interest in games was starting to drop off. A friend was selling his A500 with a big collection of pirated games, he brought it round, set it up and I was moderately impressed. Then he loaded up Another World and I couldn't hand over the cash fast enough. It was this game that introduced me to the idea that gaming could move way beyond galaxians and simple gameplay.

Of course I quickly learned it could do so much more. I got hooked on Deluxe Paint, music trackers and even got into animation. It wasn't until I got my little teenage hands on Imagine, a 3D raytracing program that I realized I needed more power than the A500 could offer. But boy they were some of the sweetest computing years while I owned this.

Such a shame that commodore made such a balls of marketing and developing the system. It really was the king of all home computers for a long time and it took the PC many years to even begin to catch up to just what the Amiga was doing many years before it.

True multitasking, parallel processing, high colour display, beautiful implementation of a GUI driven OS in Workbench, Plug and Play before the term had even been coined, ah I could go on but suffice to say it was a visionary machine way ahead of its time.

I share alot of the same memories. I remember blowing several of my friends minds showing them the games I had on this machine. I probably played TV sports football the most, but another world was up there. This epic fail by commodore probably set back the computing age by 5-10 years.

Couldn't agree more.

The bragging rights were very good, especially if you got a friend round who hadn't seen just what the Amiga could do visually. If you remember back then people were really deciding between the Atari ST and Amiga and it was great fun convincing people to go with the Amiga hehe

Defender of The Crown and Dragon's Breath were my awed entry into Amiga. Many more fond memories came along, ending with Team 17's games (Worms!) and Sensible Soccer as the highlights. Deluxe Paint, trackers and demos/cracktros were the icing on the cake.

Defender of the crown was great. Another thing I remember was how good the sound was. Those games had terrific music scores that really increased my enjoyment while playing the games. The PC's at the time had crappy sound capabilities.
