Another cracked screen

I'm wondering how common the cracked screen issue is for the Sony eBook readers.

I just got my second cracked screen. The first time, I wasn't surprised -- my PRS-700 was in my bag and I slipped on the ice and fell. The cover was closed, but the unit was still damaged and had to be completely replaced. Thankfully, Amex covered it.

My husband had the PRS-505, and when I was in to get the PRS-700 replaced, the Sony store told me that the older model, unlike the 700, could be repaired, and I figured it would be less fragile, so we traded.

The second time, however, I have no idea what happened. I pulled the reader out of my bag one day and discovered it was damaged. I thought I'd just get the broken part repaired, but Sony will only replace it, to the tune of $250.

Obviously the covers are not designed well enough to protect the unit (I even saw one fellow online who proactively reinforced his with titanium), so is this a class-action-worthy design flaw, or do I just need to stick to paper books from now on?

I don't believe I've ever damaged another gadget like this. It's disappointing.

As far as how commonly it happens you may want to look at the MobileRead forums. However, most of the users there seem to have purchased additional covers for theirs. The included cover seemed flimsy enough to convince me to quickly purchase an additional case. I went with the BookArmor and recommend it if you ever buy another.
