8130 Deletes texts when I run too many apps
I love this phone so much. I really do. It's so small. It has an 1/8" out. It does most of the stuff I want to just fine. Whenever I think it's broken, it's not - except for in one big way: it deletes my texts whenever I'm using too much system memory.
Apparently this is done so the device can free up memory as quickly as possible. But why would that be the place to delete from first!?!
Have any of you had success in ways with dealing with this? I know it's epidemic, but Sprint, RIM, Crackberry forums have not helped me much.

I've got the 8130 and it used to do the same thing. And the worst part was that I would be receiving a new message and it would delete it before I even got it. I used to get sooo pissed cause I didn't know if what I missed from people. I would also get the really annoying blinking red light if I was reading a BBM while I received a new one. Both of these issues were resolved when I upgraded to the newest OS release. I believe it is 4.5.0.77 that I have, but there is probably a newer one by now (I did this back in november or december of '08). I suggest busting out a quick google search for blackberry 81xx OS updates and hopping to the install.
Good luck! Let us all know how it goes!

I hate this aspect of the device... My mom forwarded me a bunch of MMS pics so I could download them to the computer and before I got to the computer it deleted them.. I hate this phone.. If anyone wants to buy it I would recommend not to...
This happened to me after installing a bunch of applications on my Pearl (e.g. Google Maps, etc.).
I had to revert back to factory settings, updated the OS to 4.5, and installed only the software that I really needed.
Hasn't happened to me since then.
Updating the OS is probably your best bet.

I don't recall seeing that specific bug, but I don't run to many apps (twitterberry / ubertwitter / google maps / att navigator)
I do have to pull my battery once "every couple of months" though, usually after it does things like showing an hourglass after typing in the keypad unlock screen for more than 5 minutes.

Its not an issue of the Pearl's OS. The problem is that the phone has a pathetic 64MB of ROM. You basically should go in and delete all the languages you don't use, help files, stupid apps like Brick Breaker. Resetting the phone by pulling the battery is a good way to free up some memory after a week or so of use. Also its a good idea to delete email, text messages, and pictures (if you have them on device memory not an SD card) in order to free up a little space. I know its not convenient but its a good way to manage memory. Keep an eye out on the memory free numbers in Help->Status.
The Weather Eye app was causing me to have an abnormal amount of drain on the memory. I removed the app completely, but could as well have turned off automatic updates. Now the only applications on my phone configured to automatically refresh are Facebook, Push E-mail, and Google Maps everything else is manual. Can't wait to get a new phone, if you're really into pushing the capability of your phone to the limits there just isn't enough physical memory on this device. That combined with the fact that you can't configure the phone to install applications and other OS software to the expansion card doesn't make it ideal for those of us that always take their devices one step further.
