2.1 update for Eris Doesnt include voice to text?

I updated my eris but the feature seems missing. I want to talk to the phone to enter text messages and it is my understanding that the incredible and other phone on 2.1 can do it just fine. they have a little mic icon on the keyboard. my eris does not.

Can anyone confirm that this feature is not present on the eris. and if it is missing, what is the best alternative?

If it helps, I know the Droid Incredible has it, which has the Sense UI also.

My Eris also lacks the microphone. I don't think voice-to-text is possible, due to the processor/memory requirements. Maybe there's an app?

Following KaJax77, I'll be answering my own question today. I used the one-click root app that's out there, bootstrapped the hybrid 2.2 FroYo ROM, and I'm golden. Voice-to-text works beautifully everywhere, I can install apps to my SD card (and hence install a ton more of them), and my updates apply automatically. Just run into a couple of minor speed bumps recently, but I love FroYo.

I don't think the Eris has a speech to text function built in, but I use the ShoutOut app, which goes both ways- speech to text and text to speech. It's not perfect, but it's pretty accurate.

Use the Handcent SMS app, it replaces the normal SMS app and includes voice to txt. it works very well. use it many times daily.
