1 gig to 2 gig?

I have heard that you can't replace the memory on the 1005HA without sending it somewhere and paying out the nose for it. Is this true? Does anyone know?

I believe that is the 1008ha; the 1005HA has replaceable memory and HDD. Someone correct me if I am wrong though as I haven't had a hands on with the device.

The 1005ha has user replaceable memory. The hard drive requires a lot more digging.

ditto. the ram is readily swappable by simply removing the port cover (1 screw). The hard drive can be swapped by removing the entire bottom panel of the laptop.

Yup. I upped my memory from 1 to 2 gigs and the machine really snaps through processes. If you google "upgrade RAM on ASUS EEE" you should find several discussions on the matter. I did my swap before I even powered it on for the first time. Once you have swapped the RAM and screwed the backplate back on you are ready to power up. Plug in and turn on the machine. While it is powering up, press F2 over and over again. You will get into the bios (I think) where you will see the RAM upgrade. Follow the prompts and voila!

I bought the machine and the 2 gig of RAM from Amazon. I think that the RAM was, like, $27. Pretty cheap.

Same here, one screw and you're done, easeiest RAM upgrade ever and well worth it if you like to run a lot of tabs in firefox and whatnot.

Not that this really NEEDS another comment, but it took me approximately 15 seconds and a small Phillips screwdriver to swap in a 2 gig stick.

I joked with my friend Nerfus that the 1 giggers that come in the 1005HAs will probably end up being like stock rims on an Escalade.

If you have any question about picking one of these guys up let me advise you that you do it. These things are beastly in every aspect.

My wife loves her 1005HA. I did the ram upgrade this weekend. I had to google it, because I wasn't sure which F button to hit to bring the netbook into bios. There is no Asus flash, the netbook goes directly into Windows loading, so as soon as you power on the netbook keep clicking F2.

It was well worth the $27 I paid on Amazon for the 2 GB RAM. This is meant to be an inexpensive netbook, so the price was right to boost performance.

Did my upgrade a couple days ago. VERY easy on the 1005HA. My friend has the 1008HA and was pretty sad when he saw how difficult that one is. Running Windows 7 RTM with Aero - Excellent response BTW. I can't remember the last gadget I had that was so much value for the money. Now let's see how long it takes for me to break it!
