Alienware X51

by corgan

Either Alienware/Dell has serious quality control problems, or a compromised system found its way to my door.
details
Just a heads up for any prospective buyers.
I was extremely excited to fire up X51 for the first time yesterday.
Right out of the gate, some things seemed....wrong. The packaging appeared fairly flimsy, with two plastic molded pieces holding the machine in place and a folded cardboard insert to fill the gap which existed between that and the outside box. Even carrying it to my room, I could feel the X51 sliding around: that cardboard was not enough to keep it stationary.
When first opened, I... Read more →

Do seperate/proprietary android markets hurt the android platform?
details
I've been meaning to ask this for a while, and I'll keep this to the point. What are the opinions out there regarding separate and some even proprietary markets for android apps? I don't know about you guys but I'm constantly hearing about random markets and it's a bit frustrating, personally. I USED to grab the free apps on amazon but it caused undesired (and unfortunate) side effects with the regular market if those apps happened to be available there. Issues like random notifications for... Read more →

Anyone else digging the new Chrome browser for Android 4.0?
details
Just installed the new Chrome browser for Android, and so far I'm really liking it. The browser in Android has always been a bit underwhelming -- which created an opening for third-party offerings like Dolphin and Opera -- but even though it's still in beta I've been impressed with both the UI and performance on Chrome for Android. It feels like a big step forward.
Lenovo ThinkPad T400s with SimpleTap

Broken or damaged left side palm rest a common problem?
details
So I picked up a used t400s with simple tap to run Ubuntu on. It works flawlessly (including the simple tap - which is fun) but it has a hairline crack on the left side palm rest. Googling shows others have had the same problem (http://goo.gl/qAR8N). Does anyone here have the same issue and does it become a bigger issue down the road? So far its not impacting my use.

Nikon D4 Vs. D800E
details
I have a D300 I've outgrown and am ready for a new Nikon body...
I could afford a D4 or D800... but I'm frankly torn on which to purchase!
I think I'll likely get more enjoyment out of the D800 because I'm most passionate about my landscape photography. However the wireless capabilities of the D4 really had me excited and the D4 may be overall more practical.
I know a lot of folks would jump at the D4 but the nearly $3000 savings could go towards a lot of other things.... What would you do in my...

Using my wifi at home
details
Why do I have to enter my password on my iPad several times while I use my wifi at home? It would happen when I am in the middle of writing emails or while I am reading websites.

The future of MacBook Pro or Air?
details
Expecting there to be at least one more MacBook Pro release, Would it be All SSD or an SSD/Hard Drive Combo with optical drive?
The other direction would be a 15" Air with more RAM, i7 Proc & more interfaces to serve as a Pro and as an Air.
Netgear N600 Wireless Dual-Band Gigabit Router (WNDR3800)

Disabling WPS ended dropped WiFi for me
details
Hi all,
I have had this router for months and was impressed with its range and the fact that I could broadcast on the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies at the same time. But with surprising frequency, the WiFi kept dropping out, only on the 2.4 GHz level. Usually it was when I had just initiated a new action on either my laptop or iPod Touch. To reenable, all I had to do was walk over to the router and turn off the WiFi broadcast and turn it back on. A minor inconvenience, but still, it was irritating.... Read more →
Lenovo IdeaCentre A720

Has anyone heard of a ship date for the A720?
details
Lenovo's website has been very broken lately, so I'm not sure if they're accepting pre-orders even.

Best ICS/Galaxy Nexus Optimized Apps
details
Hey all,
As someone with a minor (undiagnosed) case of OCD, the thing that bothers me most about the Android market is the inconsistent quality of the apps available on it. Most apps look like they were designed with Android 3.x in mind and don't seem to follow the ICS design guidelines. As a result, they look outright awful on my new beautiful Galaxy Nexus.
I wanted to start a thread where people can recommend some of the best, most awesomely designed apps for the Galaxy Nexus/ICS.
I'll start:... Read more →
