I am considering switching my tv subscription from DirecTV, which I love but it's still expensive compared to an HD antenna. Over the years I have become so in love with having a DVR (I used to have Comcast) that I couldn't imagine going back so I would need something like TiVo if I made the swtich. Doing some research it seems that the Leaf+ is the best option out there, and the TiVo Premiere XL will work with anything. The HD antenna is pretty cheap and seems that I can mount it inside, even...

DirecTV just released a video touting a completely revamped and *FASTER* guide for their HD DVR receivers. Reports from the beta testers is that the box's GUI is 5 to 10 times more responsive than the current abomination of a GUI. Video: http://youtu.be/wmYCc0mpvtw Details PDF:...

So I am a big football fan and think of myself as a very tech savvy guy. I am in the process of getting Direct TV installed for my condo and then will cancel my comcast TV service. I would love to cancel comcast altogether, but only if I can get a fast, reliable and decent price for internet service. I live in Billerica, MA, about 25 miles north of Boston. My development is wired for Verizon, but every plan I look at online is a lot slower than comcast. My current comcast plan I believe is set...

I've read you can expand the storage capacity by connecting an external SATA hard drive. Does anyone know of an specific unit I could buy on Amazon for this? One that comes with the correct cable? Also, does anyone know what's the size of the internal HDD? thanks!
So I just got DirecTV for the first time and I wanna know what kind of hacks/tricks I can do with it. I know for extra money I can watch Sunday Ticket games on my iPhone - but what else is possible? I think Mac users are worse off than windows users and I have an iPhone, and an iMac. I also have an Xbox 360 and am getting a Wii - so what cool things can I do with the DTV DVR and other gadgets?
If you want to jump 30 second instead of watching the video slip on by try the following 1. Make sure you have the (latest) upgrade 2. Go to Menu > Search for Shows > Keyword 3. Enter in "30SKIP" in the search area and hit "Continue" 4. That's it. Now go to a recording, and hit play and try the old SLIP button out. 5. If you want to go back, do the same thing as above but put "30SLIP" instead.
A few weeks ago I wrote that one of the things Apple might do if it wanted to sell an HDTV would be to offer some sort of online television service that could lure regular people away from cable and satellite. I didn't get too specific at the time, but I have some ideas about what a competitive online TV service might look like and figured I'd ask the gdgt community to share its thoughts as well. Microsoft's new Xbox Live IPTV services are about as close as anyone seems to have gotten so far, but...

both of the providers in my area do not subscribe to espn3.com at this time. that may really be the only think keeping me from dumping directv and cutting the cable all together. We have centurylink and bresnan in my area as our only options
Under the rules of DirectTV's new deal with the NFL last year sometime, they were required to offer the NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go service to non-DirectTV customers. ('To-Go' is similar to MLB.tv; only providing access to games on a computer, iPad, smartphone app, etc.) There was a lot of talk about it last year, but on doing a Google search, the most recent chatter is from August 2010. Did DirectTV get out of it somehow? Or are they just making it so insanely difficult to get, that nobody is going...
Now, the customer support 1-800 number is totally slammed. You can't even get a call to go through on it, much less get the automated directory system, and MUCH less get an actual human on the line....
