Am I right in assuming the enhanced 8400M-related issue warranty runs until 12 months after my warranty runs out?
details
I've found another one of these recently (like cockroaches, these are) and I'm thinking that maybe I'll use it in the same mode as I'm using the Envy 14, hammer it for a while in MCE, see if it fails... and see what happens? The warranty on this unit (I retired all of my M1330's in 2008 in disgust, and this one, while generally functional, still bears the partially stripped screws of too many on-site repairs) expired in October of last year. So for 8400M incidents, will...

XPS M1330 and Ubuntu 9.04 (or really any linux distro) - battery charge
details
I've been working with quite a few linux distros on my m1330 in the past months and although I've bounced between them and at points would really prefer to use them over Win7...my experience has been drastically reduced battery life compared to Win7. I have a 6-cell (and no intention of grabbing the stupid "riser" 9-cell) and have been getting 4+ hours of battery life with Win7 using just the power save options in windows. On the Ubuntu side (the current distro installed) I can... Read more →

720p+ output via HDMI on an M1330
details
Hi everyone, I'm trying to output a 720p MKV via HDMI, i have 2.2ghz processor, 4gb ram and the 8400 GPU (not sure on the model no.) but the video lags and stutters. I have tried KMPlayer with CoreAVC codec and same problem. Has anyone been able to play 720p or 1080p material smoothly, or am i just wasting my time because the machine cant handle it?

Cannot adjust screen brightness
details
I tried to google a way to this problem, but no success. The problem is I cannot adjust my screen brightness at all, the screen brightness is at its full no matter what. I've tried everything, Fn + up/down arrow doesn't work, going into the Vista power settings doesn't work...Nothing. I desperately need a fix to this problem because due to this I'm out of battery in under an hour. P.S.: This problem occurred after installing a fresh copy of Windows Vista, I downloaded all the...

Windows 7
details
I did a fresh install of the Release Candidate when it came out about a month ago and before that I was running the Beta. I have to say that the combination of this machine and the new OS is sweet!!!!! Although I also use this notebook as my primary work machine, so there was a little bit of risk involved, I haven't had any issues with crashing or losing data and it seems very stable. Anyone else ditched Vista for the delicious goodness of Windows 7 or has anyone gone crazy and installed a...

Copper Mod for overheating M1330
details
Overheating with the Dell XPS M1330 is a common problem with those units that have the Nvidia 8400 GS installed. So, don't fret! My molten M1330 has had its mobo replaced twice due to this problem. The issue resides with, as you might've guessed, the Nvidia chip itself. In an effort to provide a solution to its consumers, Dell released a BIOS update which essentially has your fan running most, if not all the time, and usually on high speeds. Dell has also made provisions to provide a 1... Read more →
