Conclusion: We like it

With the XPS 14z, Dell squeezes a 14-inch display into a 13-inch body, and includes a DVD drive, essentially cramming a full-featured laptop into a body the size of a netbook. The resulting laptop is heavier than a typical netbook, at 4.4 pounds, but also boasts a range of features not found in lighter, cheaper laptops, including a fast Intel Core i7 processor, backlit keyboard, and a USB 3.0 port. At $1000 and up, the XPS 14z competes with lighter Ultrabooks, but is still worth considering if you need a small, full-featured laptop with an optical drive.

The Dell XPS 14z is a nicely designed, well-built 14-inch laptop, but the XPS "z" design works better on the 15-inch version, leaving this model feeling chunky.
