Conclusion: We like it

This 27-inch monitor is definitely among the best around with great color accuracy, deep blacks, very wide viewing angles, and a capacious 2560 x 1440 resolution. Inputs include HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort, Component, Composite, and VGA, so you can hook it up to just about any computer, Blu-ray player, or even your old VHS deck. If you can afford it — and have room on your desk — it's worth its $800 price tag. Otherwise, our top-recommended display, the $300, 24-inch U2412M, is a great choice.

Bottom line is that if you're looking for a large LCD with lots of features, a high resolution, great colors, and what we feel is the best current LCD panel technology, the Dell U2711 should be at the top of your list.

Many of you asked for a round-up of 27" IPS-based displays, and here it is. Although these screens feature similar specifications, you might be surprised at how much they differ, both in performance and price. Which of the three is right for you?

The Dell UltraSharp U2711 lives up to its name and displays an excellent array of colors. While it may have some trouble with the dark grays this monitor makes up for that in its numerous features and keeping a good track record, as far as Dell's go.

Wow. If any of the monitors in this group test deserve to come out ahead of Apple’s then the Dell U2711 is it. True, it’s the most expensive here by a wide margin but, boy, you can see what the money’s been spent on.

A beautiful monitor that offers a sensational 2560 x 1440 resolution. It's going to cost you, but it's worth the money if you can afford it.

Can PC monitors be too big? Speak to owners of uber 30-inch displays and you might be surprised by the answer. That's where the Dell Ultrasharp U2711 steps in.

The only things that really pulls U2711 down is the somehow too premium price and heavy power consumption. A LED backlight would have helped, but besides that U2711 is an amazing and very versatile PC monitor that I really enjoyed testing.

I use this monitor as my daily monitor and for although I'm not a designer per say I find that it replicates colours quite adequately. Style wise it's not the most spectacular monitor but I prefer the more simple look to the monitors that are glossy and plastic looking. The Dell UltraSharp...

It was between this an getting a 27" apple display. This monitor beat it hands down in price and features. I would seriously suggest anyone looking at an apple display give the u2711 a look. It's not cheap but worth every penny.

I use it mainly for gaming and its high res is perfect. It can ajust to every posible angle and is solid as a rock. It is heavy and runs hot so dont sit closer than 30 cm or it will melt your face off.

Pictures, video games and movies look great on this, Blu-Ray looks great, though I don't have an HDMI cable yet, to see full 1080p content, 1080i content looks great. I'm coming from a Dell 2405FPW, which I loved, but it lacked HDMI and HDCP support. This monitor swivels, and has tilt...

I am surprised GDGT are reviewing the U2711 many years after it's launch - chances are, it will be replaced by something much thinner and that emits less heat - it's one downside. We had one in the office for a year or so and it was almost impossible to fault, for reasons given elsewhere on this...

Only had this a couple of hours, but it definitely has the wow factor - massive resolution (2560x1440) at a tolerable size for the home. The image is crisp and even, with no defects that I can see. Colour reproduction is excellent out of the box with factory calibration (certificate included in...

I upgraded to this monitor from a 24" 1080P resolution, and it's a huge improvement. Text is crisp and the extra screen real estate is great. It's expensive, but I wouldn't want to do back to a lower resolution monitor.
