Just a heads up for any prospective buyers. I was extremely excited to fire up X51 for the first time yesterday. Right out of the gate, some things seemed....wrong. The packaging appeared fairly flimsy, with two plastic molded pieces holding the machine in place and a folded cardboard insert to fill the gap which existed between that and the outside box. Even carrying it to my room, I could feel the X51 sliding around: that cardboard was not enough to keep it stationary. When first opened, I...

I just heard a fascinating monologue on NPR's "This American Life" about the manufacturing plants in China where devices from Apple, Dell, and hundreds of other consumer electronic companies come from. Has anyone else had a chance to listen to it? Any thoughts or reflections on the experiences of the narrator, an avowed Apple fanboy himself?
I watch hulu, and xfinity on a 46 inch LG TV. and while those are typically 480p, the amazon flix do get up to 780p. I got one about 13 months ago and returned it but saw that the specs improved and this time it is a keeper.
I had a Rev A00 one of these, and it developed (or maybe always had?) an issue with certain colors, only when these colors appeared on the left half of the screen, causing horizontal static lines, and if the problem colors covered enough of the screen, the entire screen losing sync and going black. It was definitely the monitor as I tried different DVI cables, different computers, different video cards, different inputs on the monitor and different operating systems. It could be temporarily...

Very poor form from Dell in terms of the number of delays, and lack of information. However, the phone is awesome, love the feel of it, and WP7 is very nice.
What I mean to say is, are there average parts in computers already fast enough to suit most users so that you're more inclined to pay a premium for a "better" computer as opposed to the computer with the most RAM or the fastest clock speed? I'm going to take the (current) MacBook Air for example. It's most definitely not the fastest computer out there and won't be fast enough for the vast majority of computer enthusiasts. At the same time, most aspects of the...

(to get the most "bang for the buck") Which parts will they try to rip you off on / should you try to purchase and install yourself? From my experience, it seems to be more important to upgrade the parts you cannot change later on. (For example, you can purchase more memory later on or get a new hard drive but not a higher resolution display.)
There will be a Dell fix coming in the next few weeks that will address many of the issues our customers have raised. Here's my post that details the update process: http://en.community.dell.com/dell-blogs/Direct2Del...
I don't remember it being this bad though. I have 2.2 on my Dell Venue and it literaly freaks out anytime I install anything. I have 12.31/14.82 GB free on my sd card, and 53.66MB free in phone storage. I shouldn't be getting any alert what so ever. Sometimes unmounting and remounting the card works, other times I have to reboot. This is completely inexcusable however. I shouldn't be plagued by such an aggressive bug, and cross versions, cross devices. Google really needs to start...

keynotes. http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/03/03/steve-jobs-... While the article gets petty, it's still satisfying to read it in some ways. For me, it's very important that a company be honest, and Apple has just never cut it in that respect. Outright lies during a keynote, similar to the ones Apple told when criticizing Windows during the many OS X keynotes, shouldn't be part of a tech company's vocabulary. Apple has enough good...
I prefer it and live wallpapers are an interesting way to burn up the battery more quickly! - but very attractive. Being able to rotate the home screen to both orientations is the way it should have been from the start. There are a few apps that wouldn't run under 1.6, but no huge difference. The large screen at last makes web browsing a pleasure and I can still put it in pocket or purse easily. I don't know why other phone manufacturers haven't put out 5" devices; as far as...

My budget is around or under $200 and display size would be around 20"- 24" (larger is better, but a higher quality display is more important). Currently, LED and 1080p are on my must have list while 3D is something I do not want. There are also other technologies such as IPS and HMDI that would improve my experience so here are my questions - Which technologies will be worth getting to "future-proof"? and What brands provide the best monitors and customer service (warranty,...

Even though my HP dm3 is still going strong and I just got my old Acer 3810t back up and running linux, I couldn't help but pull the trigger. Anyone else?
What is aggravating for me is that Swype sucks compared to ShapeWriter, and if you hit backspace too much it bugs out and takes it as the OS back and jumps you out of the tutorial, just to be forced to restart.
Plenty of memory & storage for my purposes. I ditched the launcher that came with it in favor of Launcher Pro. I purchased it as WiFi only with no T-Mobile contract.
Hey guys. Need a favor. I'd like to upgrade from my trusty Dell Inspiron 1427 laptop. Let me know any suggestions you have for a Midrange laptop (13-15 inches / 4Gb Memory/ 320 to 500Gb HDD/ midrange graphics card) and if it has an option for a backlit keyboard..
I'm looking for a laptop. But here's what I'm looking for: These are a must: NFC DLNA Bluetooth at least 1 USB 3.0 port but must have at least 2 usb ports An HDMI port (In and out if possible touch screen (possibly a convertible laptop) and a camera (for video chat. i don't plan on sing this for photography. it looks stupid) Can't be over 14 in in width, High-Res Display. Optical drive not necessary. looking for a thin laptop. Core i5 or i7 cpu, max out ram at 8 GB (can't sit pretty t 4 gb or ram) 1 gb...

[I would prefer an Android-based tablet since I'm already familiar with that platform.]
By "best tablet" I mean, which is the most reliable and intuitive device for running PowerPoint? What about connecting the tablet to a projector? Do they all have mini HDMI? Of course I wouldn't be designing the presentations on the tablet, simply running them.
I was given a Dell Inspirion Duo, i would like to use it for drawing more than anything, but cant find a good stylus/pen and good software drawing for it. It has windows 7 home premuim, 2gb ram, 300gb hdd. Any suggestions?
I'm in the market for a new laptop after three years. Now I'm the kinda guy who doesn't mind spending a couple hundred dollars more right now to get something that seems like overkill at the present, so long as it keeps me chugging along at a decent pace for two or three years. Basically, I don't like to throw down money for a new gadget every year. This brings me to my question: Are there any decent touchscreen laptops available these days? I ask because it's patently obvious that that's the...

I've been loving me test drive of windows 8. it's smoother than windows 7. But... All the features that make it really worth having are for a touch screen. I'm currently rocking a Toshiba satellite with a single core Celeron cpu. its a 15" in netbook. I love touch screens but i hate tablets. I'm looking for a convertible laptop. something like a Lenovo X220 or a dell latitude xt2 or a HP touchsmart tx2. But not as heavy as these 3. i like these because they have the power i want but unlike the...

My wife desperately needed a new computer to replace her 6 year-old desktop so, of course, I bought myself a new laptop and I'm giving her my old one. But try as I might, I cannot convince her to stop using Outlook Express. Of course, the laptop, which is running Win 7, does not even have Outlook Express so I at least convinced her that Windows Live Mail was the next best thing. Now, I need to figure out how to take the OE data in the desktop and bring it to Windows Live Mail in the laptop so...
I'm not looking for anything too special. But cheap would be nice. I wouldn't say I need a huge hard drive, as I don't hold much on it, and the one I currently have is like 100GB and it has served me fine. I would like to stick with Windows 7.. The only little thing I might want would be a somewhat decent video card, as from time to time I still get random urges to play games.
Posting this for a friend. She asks: What's the best laptop value for one with wireless, usbs, word processing, decent sized screen - the basics - for a good price? Frankly I'm just looking to replace my mom's 5 year old suuuper slow and annoying Dell Inspiron with something a bit more up to date and faster (got it to go faster after a virus scan, etc. but it's just older now). She uses it daily to surf, word process, view photos, etc. but I don't want to drop a chunk of change if I don't need...
I know it's just a netbook, but the laggy browsing is really starting to annoy me. It's an Inspiron Mini 1018. I'm not really the most knowledgeable about this kind of thing, but I'm guessing it probably won't be possible...
My sister is going to college next year and her school is offering some good deals on Dell laptops with a Core 2 Duo (such as the Latitude 13 for $500 w/ 4 year service) . My desktop from 5 years ago has that processor, so I was wondering if it's stupid to buy a new machine with such an old processor or if for a kid who does email, word processing, and Facebook would be fine for four years with it. Thanks for the help! Dave
i run our IT dept and i'm looking for options to upgrade our video conferencing. we currently just use two xp machines with logitech software. the pc's are hooked up to flat screen tv's so the picture quality leaves a lot to be desired. i'd love to upgrade the logitech cams to hd cams but we'd obviously need new hardware. my first thought were mac minis due to their size & relatively low price. i'm curious if there is a similar design to the mini for the windows pc market? my office is all...

After RIM's disappointing Q2 numbers, a lot of speculation has spun up about possible buyouts. The two potential buyers I've heard are Dell and Microsoft. Any diehards in the BlackBerry camp care to comment? Would you continue to support the BB brand if it lived on under the aegis of Microsoft or Dell? I see pros and cons to both deals.
Recently I saw the Dell XPS 8300 which had no details and I'm considering buying a Denon 3312 which isn't yet listed on the site and it made me wonder what the process was and whether the community is involved at all.
I am an independent game developer / designer and I am looking for a laptop that I can use to work away from my desk. I was looking into Alienware, but I am not sure if I would need that much power nor do I want that much weight with me. I would like something that is light and easy to carry with me but also packs a punch with some power. Seeing how I am designing games on it, the laptop should be able to play the majority of the games on the market at medium or high settings. I am willing to...
