It makes us sad, but the Inspiron Duo is far from being that perfect tablet / netbook hybrid we've been waiting for. As a netbook, it has a number of redeeming qualities, including a stellar keyboard and solid build, but it's heavy and its battery lasts half as long as some $299 netbooks...

I bought the Duo a few months after it came out with a single purpose in mind: Install Windows 8 Developer Preview. I used it with Windows 7 for about a week before 8 was released and I can see why it would get shredded in reviews, however running Windows 8 on it is a completely different story....

Overall, the Duo is a great thing to use, the decent size keyboard allows for comfortable typing, but the viewing angles are poor at best, you need to be pretty much right in front of the screen if you don't want quite a lot of colour distortion. Also, my machine has been back for repairs...
