Dell's middle-of-the-road Inspiron 14 offers a decent low-cost mainstream Core 2 Duo package, but we would have liked better battery life and more graphics options.

The fact that the Inspiron 14 includes an optical drive and a Core i3 processor helps make this laptop an attractive purchase. However, the abundance of flexible plastics and lack of special features like backlit keyboard or more advanced ports make the Inspiron 14 far more average than exceptional. quote

Among value-priced 14-inch notebooks, the $599 Inspiron 14 is a strong choice. It sports a classy design and backs up its handsome looks with a fair amount of power and blaring speakers. We much prefer the keyboard on the ThinkPad Edge 14, which also lasts longer on a charge.
