Are there any high resolution desktop displays?
details
Almost five years ago, Jeff Atwood wrote "Where Are The High Resolution Displays?": http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/06/where-are-the-high-resolution-displays.html
Brian Lam's The Wirecutter thinks that the best desktop display available now is the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M, which has just 94 PPI, less than my 13" MacBook Pro at 116 PPI.
iOS retina displays have got me thinking:
1. What is the highest resolution (or best high PPI) desktop display available now?
2. Is any progress being made in... Read more →

What is the best tablet to use for PowerPoint presentations?
details
[I would prefer an Android-based tablet since I'm already familiar with that platform.]

By "best tablet" I mean, which is the most reliable and intuitive device for running PowerPoint? What about connecting the tablet to a projector? Do they all have mini HDMI? Of course I wouldn't be designing the presentations on the tablet, simply running them.

Thoughts? Any help is appreciated!

Are There Any Decent Touchscreen Laptops Out There Yet?
details
I'm in the market for a new laptop after three years. Now I'm the kinda guy who doesn't mind spending a couple hundred dollars more right now to get something that seems like overkill at the present, so long as it keeps me chugging along at a decent pace for two or three years. Basically, I don't like to throw down money for a new gadget every year.
This brings me to my question: Are there any decent touchscreen laptops available these days? I ask because it's patently obvious that that's the... Read more →

Seeking a Windows 8 Convertible laptop! Intel based with 1280 Res.
details
I've been loving me test drive of windows 8. it's smoother than windows 7. But... All the features that make it really worth having are for a touch screen. I'm currently rocking a Toshiba satellite with a single core Celeron cpu. its a 15" in netbook. I love touch screens but i hate tablets. I'm looking for a convertible laptop. something like a Lenovo X220 or a dell latitude xt2 or a HP touchsmart tx2. But not as heavy as these 3. i like these because they have the power i want but unlike the... Read more →

Exporting Outlook Express in a desktop into Windows Live Mail in a laptop?
details
My wife desperately needed a new computer to replace her 6 year-old desktop so, of course, I bought myself a new laptop and I'm giving her my old one. But try as I might, I cannot convince her to stop using Outlook Express. Of course, the laptop, which is running Win 7, does not even have Outlook Express so I at least convinced her that Windows Live Mail was the next best thing. Now, I need to figure out how to take the OE data in the desktop and bring it to Windows Live Mail in the laptop so...

Best Windows Laptop for Under $800?
details
I'm not looking for anything too special. But cheap would be nice. I wouldn't say I need a huge hard drive, as I don't hold much on it, and the one I currently have is like 100GB and it has served me fine. I would like to stick with Windows 7.. The only little thing I might want would be a somewhat decent video card, as from time to time I still get random urges to play games.

What is the best basic laptop for a mom?
details
Posting this for a friend. She asks: What's the best laptop value for one with wireless, usbs, word processing, decent sized screen - the basics - for a good price? Frankly I'm just looking to replace my mom's 5 year old suuuper slow and annoying Dell Inspiron with something a bit more up to date and faster (got it to go faster after a virus scan, etc. but it's just older now). She uses it daily to surf, word process, view photos, etc. but I don't want to drop a chunk of change if I don't need...

Is it worth buying a laptop with a Core 2 Duo Processor?
details
My sister is going to college next year and her school is offering some good deals on Dell laptops with a Core 2 Duo (such as the Latitude 13 for $500 w/ 4 year service) . My desktop from 5 years ago has that processor, so I was wondering if it's stupid to buy a new machine with such an old processor or if for a kid who does email, word processing, and Facebook would be fine for four years with it. Thanks for the help! Dave

windows pc similar to mac mini
details
i run our IT dept and i'm looking for options to upgrade our video conferencing. we currently just use two xp machines with logitech software. the pc's are hooked up to flat screen tv's so the picture quality leaves a lot to be desired. i'd love to upgrade the logitech cams to hd cams but we'd obviously need new hardware. my first thought were mac minis due to their size & relatively low price. i'm curious if there is a similar design to the mini for the windows pc market? my office is all...
