What is the best way to mount NTFS NAS drive to OSX Lion? Should I consider reformatting the drive to HFS+?

Long time Windows user here looking to switch to Mac.
My current setup is an Windows 7 desktop. I use iTunes to manage my media, which I store on a Drobo as my NAS. I formatted the Drobo to use NTFS and have ~1.75 TB of files on the Drobo. I also use Backblaze to backup the Drobo to the cloud.

Pre-built or DIY NAS?

For those of you that have a NAS in your place of living what path did you take? I've been thinking about going the DIY route with UnRaid because of the features and how it's geared more towards media use but then I'd be my own tech support on it. The con of pre-built though is for the cost I'd limiting myself to 2-3 bay and relying on traditional Raid.

If you picked one over the other, why?

Can anyone comment on personal experience with some of these 2Bay pre-built NAS?

I was originally planning on building an unRaid server but I'm realizing that the need for TB's of drive space is not a necessity for me right now. So I was looking at some of the pre-built boxes by Synology or Buffalo but I know they tend to really not perform all that well. I've read the reviews at SmallNetBuilder and the reviews of the DS211j aren't glowing but they're not terrible either.
