Across many review sites, I often see complaints about how slow Drobos are from a performance perspective. Admittedly these are complaints I'm reading date back to 2010, but it seems the the model itself hasn't changed since then either.
The complaints seem common enough that don't appear so much as flaws, but some sort of compromise in design.
Am I understanding this right? Can someone with more knowledge elaborate?
I'm just curious what people have running in their Drobos. I maxed out a 4-bay because of the 2TB drive limitation still, so I had to upgrade to the FS... but it was well worth it. Currently running 4x3TB drives and... well, see for yourself. http://i.imgur.com/56fgD.jpg
Wondering if anyone else has had issues with their Drobo FS and various incarnations of Mac OS X. Drobo FS is running the most recent firmware. So far I have observed the following issues on both Snow Leopard and Lion: Initially, it will take a long time to connect via AFP (sometimes as long as 2 minutes before you finally get a list of shares), but once it connects, it is reasonably fast. Are the power bricks still emitting the high pitched noise? Also I'm currently using a Synology DS207+ 2 drive nas and it's fairly noisy. What's the noise level for putting the drive near the computer or would it get annoying?
especially since i would like to access our photos, videos, music, and movies on both my wife's desktop and my laptop and will likely be replacing the media PC that was connected to my plasma until it died recently. What's the easiest (set up and use) product out there that will give me the biggest bang for my buck. Thanks.
