  • Expandability Hard drives are easy to change out either to add capacity or replace. good
  • Speed transfer speeds are a bit slow, and the time to rebuild a large hard drive can take a day or more. It gets the job done though. so-so
  • Noise The noise level is fine, depending on the brand of hard drive, some spin quieter than others, and the case can is thermal sensitive, so it's not always running so-so
Detailed review
This Drobo unit has been great at backups. I don't run it all the time or have it set as a media server. I've only had one hard drive go bad, and adding a replacement drive went fine. Though it took a couple days to finish rebuilding the terabyte drive. I've also had it restore an image when my main computer's hard drive crashed. That took a few days also. Even though it has firewire and usb 2.0 transfer speeds, the internal hardware seems to be the bottle neck. But really, I want it for reliable backups and it's been great at that.
