Detailed review
i had the X5L version of this for almost 4 years, and it served me well. when i first bought it, i could wow everybody with the awesome features it had, like a microphone, and a color screen. and it played video, which was an amazing feat back in the day. the 40-hour battery kept me going through some long weekends where i forgot the charger, and of course it had the legendary cowon audio quality and format support.
on the down side, 3/4" thickness was never really too amazing, it's really more of a "throw in your bag" type player than a pocketable device. the screen takes a few seconds to warm up, and is impossibly low resolution. and it uses the stupid subpack on the bottom for all the connections.
