Doing a little research for a top 5 video based ont he gadget data. I've been doing searches on old computers (pre-1990) to see which ones have the most wants. Any on this list that have more than 20 wants that I should add?
I got it because I want to learn assembly on a 6052 processor. Emulators lack that tactile feel. C64s are too popular, so I wanted to get something that was a little obscure and underpowered.
I recently purchased a C128, and I have a question. Now what? I didn't grow up with a C64. My first computer was a Tandy 1000. I've always at least had MS DOS. Anyway, if anyone knows of cool things to do with it, (like interface with modern equipment) please drop me a line. Thanks.
Amiga is probably my favorite computer from the 80's. My father was an big commodore fan and had almost every model that came out at the time. The sleek design and solid feel of the Amiga really made me a big fan. For every day computing I use an apple macbook, but I like to fire up the 1000 as much as I can for everything else. Yes, the Amiga was before my time, but thanks to ebay I can relive those magic early years. What made you fall in love with the 1000?
I have had mine for years and still have it hooked up to my TV, (Now a 50 inch Plasma) and it still looks great. I own a heap of original games but am using a disk with 200 games on it. It has all the games I love to play and also demos to show people what it could do back in 1993.
I knew this was a great gaming machine but my interest in games was starting to drop off. A friend was selling his A500 with a big collection of pirated games, he brought it round, set it up and I was moderately impressed. Then he loaded up Another World and I couldn't hand over the cash fast enough. It was this game that introduced me to the idea that gaming could move way beyond galaxians and simple gameplay. Anyone that was part of the 8bit generation of computers will talk about the C64 and Spectrum as being the go to machines, but before the C64 was a twinkle in Commodores eye, we had this beast that really kicked it all off. This was the first affordable computer for the home. Connect it to your TV and just compute your little heart out. I couldn't afford the A4000 so had to make do customizing the A1200. I ended up making my own case for it that needed two power supplies, had 6mb of ram (wow!) a 68040 40mhz processor, scsi hard drive for Workbench and even a 1x speed CD-ROM drive over SCSI. It was awesome, unbeatable, I had the most powerful computer in the world in my eyes, that is, until I saw Quake 1 running on a friends PC and I just died inside to see how hopelessly slow my Amiga was in comparison. Bitter sweet times!
Back when CD-ROM was not something most people had, I used to try and network a CD32 to an A1200 over a serial cable which let me copy of a CD to the computer in just over 4 hours. Wow, what speed! hehe
