Detailed review
The Commodore 64 was my first computer in 1984. I used one long before everybody else started getting 'IBM compatible' machines and NES machines - years later. What struck me was that the graphics and sounds was so much better than any of the other personal computers at the time, though the NES console provided similar performance. It was only years later in the early 90's when I got a 'VGA' colour screen and 'SoundBlaster' for my 386 that I started to enjoy gaming on PC's at the same level as the C64! (though I always missed the joystick).
I used a disk drive and had a stack of floppy's with my favourite games. Over time the floppy's lost some of their data (bit rot?) and one of my worse fears were that I'd loose my best games. I could never get the cassettes loaded with software to work. I learned some BASIC programming (no pun intended) at an after-school class and thought it was fun.
My favourite game was 'Commando' - a very early version of a combat-first person shooter! I get nostalgic whenever I hear Chiptune music from all the time I spent gaming on the C64!
Overall, a fantastic machine and a lovely introduction to the personal computing age in 1984!
