About

Originally launched as a highend GPS Nav unit with MID capabilities, the MiND had a steep MSRP around $700.
Now that the price has plummeted, there is an active hacking community centered around this x86 compatible [Intel Atom processor] sub-netbook.
The stock OS can be replaced with various Linux distros, or Windows XP, Vista, or even 7. The Windows install has to be heavily modified, and XP is currently the only version running near usability. Luckily, the device will boot from a USB drive. The GPS software is quite good and has integration with Google. The browser is based on Firefox 3.
Sadly, there is a MySpace app installed, but no Facebook. The Moblin OS on this device has no way to allow for new programs, but the Moblin 2.0 has its own app store. As this device is nearing EOL, any further updates from Clarion are unlikely. If your phone can tether over bluetooth, then the MiND can use your phone's data plan to access Google local search and also to pull destinations you have previously sent to your device via a Clarion email address. Otherwise you may search for wifi, or plug in any USB 3G dongle and connect.
