Out of the box, it's a passable streaming media player, an FM radio, a photo frame, an alarm clock, a weather station, a news ticker, and more; ... A miniature do-anything box for a Benjamin that doesn't look like it belongs in your toddler's toy chest? Sounds like a steal to us.

It does a good job delivering the time, weather, news and RSS feeds, running Pandora and waking me up, and it looks adorable while doing it. If you're comfortable dropping $100 on a little plastic cube of widgets for your bedside table, go for it.

It's hard to say if the Chumby One works better as an alarm clock, a photo frame, a news reader, or as an Internet radio, but for around $100, it's a great value in any incarnation.

Stick with your old-school alarm clock to wake up and your computer or smartphone for portable entertainment—the Chumby One is underachieving and overpriced.

... the more I looked through the Chumby apps the more I realized that diminutive box had abilities well beyond any other bedside alarm clock, thus making it the cheapest $130 alarm clock money can buy.
