So overall, this lens has to be accepted for what it is: a general purpose solution which allows the photographer not to worry about fiddling around changing lenses when out traveling, but which makes inevitable optical compromises to achieve this goal.

It’s far from perfect, but the EF-S 18-200mm IS becomes one of the most compelling general-purpose lenses for owners of compatible Canon bodies, both old and new.

Some people want to capture all of their memories and experiences (and still have very good quality images) without the burden of carrying a backpack full of lenses (and a tripod) ... For these people and these situations, the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens is a great choice

Overall this lens offers a good quality compromise for those looking for a convenient alternative to carrying multiple lenses. Sharpness levels hold up well for a lens of this type and the four-stop image stabiliser greatly increases the usability.
