Detailed review
Hardware

This feels like a quality product right from the get go. In the box as well as the headphones you also get a soft quilted carry case with magnetic fasteners, two types of cable and a promo code for Bowers and Wilkins online music service. The headphones themselves feel very solidly built, with a metal and leather construction. The cups are made of a soft sheepskin and are well padded they turn on the bearings smoothly and the headband adjustments are easy to move whilst still retaining their fit. The cable can be changed in a very nifty way, The leather cup on the left side of the headphones can be lifted off to reveal a jack port, it is then re-secured using magnets. The only let down is the cable itself which feels very thin and flimsy, whilst this isn’t a disaster, it doesn’t fit with the rest of the build which is excellent.

Comfort and Use

These headphones are some of the most comfortable I have ever tried. They sat snugly on my ears without ever feeling like they were compressing my head. Because of the soft leather I was able to wear them for long periods of time without them getting uncomfortable. Whilst these headphones do not feature active noise cancellation, they are closed back and I found that they did cut out a lot of outside noise even when walking down busy city roads. The handsfree remote features volume controls as well as the usual play/pause, skip track etc. However I found that it sat too low on the cable meaning that we had to hold it up to make a phone call, however this is a minor issue. Some devices are not compatable with the remote and mic fortunately B&W have thought of that and bundled an additional yet equally flimsy cable without a remote/mic.

Sound Quality

These headphones give you a very natural sound ( not very bassy) B&W have paid attention to making the whole range sound crisp and clear without the overpowering bass of some headphones in this price range (Yes Dr. Dre I am talking about you). When listening to Adele’s Rolling in the Deep, B&W attention to the mid range really pays off, as it allows you to hear every nuance of her voice. When listening to more bass heavy tracks such as Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z, the bass still come through quite strong but we could hear more of the mix and the music almost changes to (presumably) how it was originally intended to sound. Tracks like Go Team’s Get it together can sound muddy on lesser headphones, all the instruments blend into one, but not on the P5s here everything is clear and distinct with every sound having enough space to be heard. I really like the sound from the P5s because it does allow a diverse range of music to shine.
