There are certainly those who won't buy a phone without a keyboard, and the Q10 is unquestionably the best phone with a keyboard on the market. However, ... we're not sure cornering that market will move the needle very far in BlackBerry's favor.
Diehard BlackBerry users who can't get along without a QWERTY keyboard, and the dwindling number of companies and government agencies that prefer BlackBerry over other brands, will appreciate the Q10, which brings the platform into the modern smartphone era. However, the device is unlikely to win over any converts from Android, iOS, or even Windows Phone. For one thing, its 3.1-inch display is, as TechCrunch points out, "the smallest screen of any flagship-priced device currently on the market" and if you plan to install many apps, the "situation is still dismal." TechCrunch does, however, call it an "impressive device" and says that small screen is sharp, bright and clear, and is "30 percent larger" than those on earlier keyboard-based BlackBerrys. Engadget calls the Q10 "unquestionably the best phone with a keyboard on the market," but points out that it's difficult to "consume content" on its small screen. Ultimately, the Q10 is likely to be, as USA Today says, "a niche product" for "physical keyboard devotees." Or, as Engadget puts it, if you're a BlackBerry fan and you're wavering between this and the touchscreen Z10, your decision may come down to one question: "how badly do you hate typing on glass?"

This is a business phone, and an unabashed one, and in a world where we often want our devices to do everything for us, a little focus is actually a very refreshing thing. ... evaluate your priorities if you’re thinking about getting a Q10: the app situation is still dismal for BlackBerry 10.

The Q10 is likely to be attractive to the BlackBerry faithful. It deserves to lure some people over from Androids and iPhones as well. The keyboard makes the Q10 a good complement to a tablet. Use the bigger screen for entertainment, surfing and gaming, and the BlackBerry for messaging.

As for me, I'd replace my Bold with the Q10 in a heartbeat, but ultimately it's not enough to become the only phone I carry.

Four years ago, the Q10 may have been a contender for the best smartphone in the world; today, BlackBerry has to work four times as hard to prove there’s still a reason to go QWERTY.

That comes out to a typing experience that feels totally like a BlackBerry keyboard, while also feeling slightly less staid. This, somehow, feels like a modern phone, just with a physical keyboard.
