State of the Art - Barnes and Noble’s Nook Reader Fails to Live Up to Promises - NYTimes.com

http://nytimes.com/favicon.ico from New York Times - Dec 09, 2009

Not Yet the Season for a Nook...The Nook may have some hardware advantages — a removable battery, a memory-card slot and (because of narrower plastic margins) a slightly trimmer shape — but the Kindle is still a better machine. It’s faster, thinner, lighter and much easier to figure out. Its battery lasts more than three times as long (seven days versus two)...One day, the Nook may be a much more usable, more capable bit of gear. Of course, Amazon and Sony won’t be standing still; 2010 sure will be an interesting year.

nook Review: The Barnes & Noble E-Reader has Arrived | Gear Live

from Gear Live - Dec 09, 2009

Barnes & Noble is definitely in this game to compete, rather than to be an also-ran, and the nook makes that very apparent. Is it better than the Kindle? We’d say no, but with an asterisk. That asterisk would say that the Kindle isn’t better than the nook either. What we have here are two devices that are optimized for reading and purchasing ebooks, and each does this very well. They are different enough to be alternatives to each other in terms of the hardware experience.

Barnes & Noble nook review - SlashGear

http://www.slashgear.com/favicon.ico from Slashgear - Dec 06, 2009

Kindle beware: there’s a new wireless-toting ebook reader on the scene. The Barnes & Noble nook packs not only the backing of a serious retailer but some interesting design and usability features like ebook loaning, dual displays and touchscreen navigation. The mere promise has been enough for holiday demand to exceed supply, but does the nook experience live up to hype? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Barnes & Noble Nook Review - Nook review - Gizmodo

http://gizmodo.com/favicon.ico from Gizmodo - Dec 07, 2009

It's a relief to finally lay hands on the Nook. The dual-screen reader was just a prop at its unveiling so I'm happy to report it works (pretty) well. It can't kill Kindle yet, but it's an alternative worth considering.

Barnes & Noble Nook review -- Engadget

http://www.engadget.com/media/favicon.ico from Engadget - Dec 07, 2009

In the end, the Nook is an intriguing product launched by a powerful force in the world of booksellers, but the initial offering feels long on promises and short on delivery. With the right software revisions, the Nook could be a tsunami, but as it stands right now, it's only a mild swell.

The Barnes & Noble nook has been pelted with relatively poor reviews since it began shipping, but I'm happy with my gift. [Read more]
