First released in selected U.S. cities in November 1993, and then rest of the country in early 1994, the Jaguar was designed to surpass the Mega Drive/Genesis and the SNES in processing power. However, despite being marketed as the first 64-bit gaming system, the Jaguar proved to be a commercial failure and prompted Atari to leave the home console market.
Despite of that, the Jaguar had a large fan base producing homebrew games which made the console something of a cult classic.
