Conclusion: We like it

With a beautiful, full-HD, display, good keyboard, and solid performance, the latest Zenbook is one of the best Windows 8 ultrabooks available. However, it's also one of the most expensive, and even the non-touchscreen version can suffer from less-than-stellar battery life. Engadget says it "packs high-performing internals into a sleek package and offers a comfortable keyboard, to boot," but it "verges on cost-prohibitive." Laptop Mag says the series "packs a ton of power into a slim and portable frame" and calls it "one of the best premium 15-inch Ultrabooks yet." Engadget agrees, and says that, despite its shortcomings (and high price), it's "easily the most powerful Ultrabook you can get."

The Zenbook Prime UX51Vz is easily the most powerful Ultrabook available, but underwhelming battery life -- and a sky-high price tag -- temper our enthusiasm somewhat.

The Asus Zenbook U500 packs a great, high definition screen and boasts excellent performance from within a sleek and sturdy chassis. Sadly, its lack of touchscreen means it's not the ideal machine for properly taking advantage of Windows 8, and it's extremely expensive.

While the Zenbook manages to get many things right, we still think that the MacBook [Pro 15 Retina] has a slight edge in quite a few disciplines. ... Overall, we think the UX51VZ has earned its rating - we can definitely recommend this notebook.
