Conclusion: We like it

Being on a budget doesn't mean you can't get a decent monitor. At well under $200, the 24-inch Asus VH242H features a solid range of ports (HDMI, DVI, and VGA, but no DisplayPort), a 1080p panel with good color reproduction and decent response times, and even built-in stereo speakers. The ergonomics aren't perfect, however: the base doesn't swivel and you can't adjust the monitor's height, but such is the case for even many higher-end monitors. You also won't find any USB ports or memory-card slots, but those seem like small sacrifices to keep the price of this monitor at a level just about anyone can afford.

It delivers good color and motion performance and has no trouble handling small fonts, but you won't find a lot of extra features on this model.

Overall, the VH242H is a solid, inexpensive monitor that displays great-looking images. It includes a number of features that we could probably do without, but often such features are personal preference--one user's cast-away feature or item is another's treasure sometimes.

The ASUS VH242H 24-inch LCD monitor has a very understated and elegant manner about it, but it also comes with a more than adequate feature set. If you’re looking for a computer monitor that does the 16:9 thing for gaming and movies, the VH242H is a solid choice.

Color: this monitor was everything and more expected for the price. With some calibration (with the apple color utility on my macbook) and use of the theater scene mode, this monitor produces incredible color. It was a bit more difficult to calibrate on my desktop, but with some use of the...

I bought this to replace a 8-10 year-old 17" Hercules LCD. This was a breath of fresh air, the colors are better, the display is brighter, not to mention bigger. I'd used a 24" monitor at work for the last few years, and it was great to finally have that at home. I can't use anything smaller now,...

I purchased this monitor 2 years ago as one of the first technology purchases I've made after moving to a new place. Since then I have been nothing but impressed with this monitor. The picture is great, the speakers are a bonus, and, most importantly, it just works out of the box.

Great monitor for the price, no problems and I've seen other monitors that cost twice this price with an inferior picture.
