- Features Honeycomb is Great, widgets are fun and functional, hdmi out and dlna streaming, Asus software to connect to LAN desktop, great features
- Display IPS 1280x800 with Gorilla glass... need I say more?!
- Battery life 9.5 hours advertised... haven't owned mine that long yet, but it's still running and beautifully! Also, optional keyboard with battery for addtl 5.5 hours.
- Ease of use No comments
- Storage capacity rating this a 4, because I bought the 16gb version... great for the price although 16gb is low. There is microSD for expandability though.
- Design and form factor Just feels like the perfect size to me. 10.1 inch screen, bezels are very comfortable and sized well. I like that it's 16x10 rather than the iPad's 4x3.
- Portability (size / weight) It's a little heavier than I expected, although it is still lighter than the Xoom and Iconia a500. Size is excellent!
- Durability Gorilla glass is excellent. Metal edges and strong plastic back... it's very well designed and feels durable. I still wouldn't drop it on purpose though.
Detailed review
So I wavered back and forth between the Transformer and Acer Iconia A500 (both excellent Honeycomb tablets), but finally decided the Transformer was the smarter buy. The cheaper price, better screen and tougher glass are what did it for me, not to mention the potential awesome keyboard dock with 5.5 hr battery.
So, I pre-ordered at 12:04am EST on release date 4/26 and just received my shiny new Asus Eee Pad Transformer (TF101) this afternoon (4/29)! It is Absolutely a pleasure to use. It starts up so fast, is so much smoother and more fluid than many of the reviews lead you to believe. The apps work great, browsing is Awesome and email with both gmail and other mail accounts work just wonderfully. Of course the screen is just amazing. I haven't used it outside yet, so no word on the sunlight issue... but who uses a tablet outside anyway.
I did play around with the A500 in Bestbuy a few times, and it is definitely on par and a very good tablet. There are a lot of good choices for us the consumer, which is Great.
My only Cons so far are 1.) the proprietary power connector. I wish it was more standard. And the 3 foot cable is awfully short. I have heard that (usb 2.0 extension cables will not work, but) USB 3.0 extension cable will work to extend the charging cable. Apparently there is an extra pin. 2.) Lack of full USB port, but that is remedied with the optional keyboard dock.
All in all, this is an Excellent tablet for anyone interested in a non iDevice. Highly recommend, and I feel it is Well worth the $399 price.
